No two of YMCA Fairfax County Reston’s five weekly Zumba classes are alike. “It’s all [the instructors’] own creativity and personality and flair that comes out,” says group exercise coordinator Jill Hoko, who estimates between 80 and 85 participants attend the hour-long Tuesday and Thursday evening sessions. “It’s our most popular class on the entire schedule.” To accommodate the demand, the YMCA branch, which Hoko claims was the first fitness Northern Virginia facility to offer the workout when it began doing so in 2002, throws between two and three Zumba parties a year, including a beach-themed summer bash and Halloween costume party.
