Her neighbors tolerated the kids going in and out of her home, but it didn’t take long for mosaic artist Bonnie Fitzgerald to put the pieces together. She needed space. Now students ages 6 to 16 enjoy plenty of room in which to learn. Recognizing that, like the tesserae she works with, each child is unique, Fitzgerald makes a point of celebrating creativity. “A mom … had a young child who didn’t like arts and crafts … but felt successful in my class.”

“Music should be a family experience,” says musician Maddy O’Neill-Dean, who turned to an internationally recognized early childhood music program called Music Together, which emphasizes adult involvement, to develop Music with Maddy. O’Neill-Dean lives her philosophy by also playing in an Irish band alongside her two sons, Kevin and Patrick. With 12 classes per week, the program celebrates its 10th anniversary next year.
