Check. Check. And Check!

Thursday, August 5, 2010

We’ve all heard of a Bucket List – goals we want to accomplish in our lifetime such as hiking the Appalachian Trail, obtaining a Ph.D., or following the speed limit on 395 without swearing. We may write them down or simply keep a running tab in our heads. But do you keep a checklist of things to do before you get married? Some respondents see their pre-marriage buckets as half-full while others kick them aside.

“I thought I’d be married by now with kids, but I’m not! I’ve waited and waited for my soul mate and have finally decided to start doing things that I’ve been holding off on.” –Miss Fed Up

Good, you’ll probably meet him now that you’re getting out and participating.

“I’ve never kept any sort of checklist because that seems to lack spontaneity. I go with the flow.” –Uncheck

“I don’t think you need a checklist of things to do before you get married, just follow what you feel in your gut and your heart.” –Roberto

Are you the Roberto from the Bachelorette? If so, you can check quite a few things off of your list…visiting Portugal, Iceland and Tahiti, performing on Broadway, and making out on national television.

“My guy friend went through a bad break up so instead of getting back into the dating scene he created a list of things to accomplish. He’s run with the bulls, jumped out of planes and ran a marathon.” –A Friend

That break up must have done a number on him. All of those activities have a common denominator…near-death experiences (especially the marathon).

Whether you’re racing against the clock or setting your own pace, remember to have fun while checking off your “to-dos”  and don’t forget…you set the rules.
