All four Northern Virginia baseball teams participating in this year’s Virginia State Little League tournament advanced past pool play and into the single elimination round over the weekend. In the 11 total games that the four teams played, only twice did a team not end with runs in double digits. The host squad Loudoun South scored 20 or more runs twice in three days.
Northern Virginia teams only met once over the weekend. Both Loudoun South and Reston National were 2-0 when they faced off for the Pool D crown, knowing that no matter the result, both would play on for at least one more day. All Northern Virginia teams hit well over the weekend, but Loudoun South was relentless, putting up 20 runs against Reston National to take the Pool D title, giving themselves a better seed for single elimination play.
West Springfield American went 3-0 during pool play, just inching by Tuckahoe American, 13-12, to win Pool C. SYA East was the only squad from the north side of the state to lose their first match, but they won the final two to advance to today’s games.
Other teams moving into the single elimination round are Bridgewater (3-0), Poquoson (3-0), Culpeper County (2-1) and Tuckahoe American (2-1).
Loudoun South will put its untarnished record to the test today at 7:30 p.m. when it faces off against fellow Northern Virginia team SYA East. West Springfield American will battle Culpeper County at 7:00 p.m. and Reston National will face so-far undefeated Bridgewater at 4 p.m.
