I read this article in the December issue of the Spirit magazine and was saddened when I read the US government deserted these animals in Vietnam. These dogs were like a seventh sense for soldiers in the field and I would bet the number of troops saved because of these efforts would be staggering if the true numbers would be available. I plan to contribute to this noble effort and hope other dog owners will help make this monument happen. Most of us probably have a loved one, friend or know of someone who served their country during conflict whose life was saved by one of these amazing dogs!

I have asked this question so many times. 700 dogs were given to the ARVN (S. Vietnamese Army) who were scared of them and so were the dogs. I read in some books the dogs were killed and eaten by the ARVN. Awful, Awful. How could the military do this to their dogs. Some were shippd to the US and others were put down. The Austrailian Military gave theirs to Foreign Civilians living in S. Vietnam. Vietnam Vets have gone back to Vietnam since the war ended. Did anyone ask what happened to these poor dogs?
In the beginning these dogs were fed bad food, poisioned, aand once the handlers have left for the US - these dogs ggot very depressed. The outside population did not hear of this. I am a dog lover and History person and I came upon this sad and horrible event with the dogs. For my piece of mind does anyone know if these dogs died a brutal death by the Vietnamese? I shudder to think what these poor dogs went through.

This has been a long haul for Burnam and his group in bringing honor and respect to these k9 soldiers. It has also been a labor of love.

I applaud all the people involved in this undertaking and salute them. As a 19 year old kid I joined the USAF and became a Sentry Dog Handler in 1969. I was immediately sent to Nha Trang Viet Nam, and became Stoltz M-126's partner. Scared, unsure of myself and lonesome, My buddy kept me sane and safe. To this day each time I look at his picture I shed a tear. Ohhh to have been able to bring him home would have been a dream come true, but alas as his records indicate he was put down. What a sad ending to a proud and selfless soldier.. This monument is the least we can do for our beloved friends and the four legged sidekicks that protected us.

I must thank all of our military for their unselfish service but after doing research and getting info from not only John’s website but also that of Ron Aiello's it only became so obvious to me just how important the MWD’s are for our troops survival. In short, anyone who is privy to this e-mail knows exactly how courageous not only are the handles are but their 4 legged partners are as well. I can sum the K9’s in just a few short words, Loyal – Loving – Courageous – a Soldiers Lifeline!
God Bless them All!
If you see a soldier, Thank them, See a soldiers Family, thank them also!
