Unless you’re a member of Team Edward or Team Jacob, you might not want to be near a Borders bookstore at midnight tonight. Fans of the Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” book series and successful movie adaptation will be out in force to pick up their copies of the “Twilight” DVD and Blu-ray. (And their boyfriends will probably still be at home watching the NCAA basketball tournament. To each their own.) The stores in Springfield, Sterling, Fairfax, Manassas, Baileys Crossroads and Woodbridge will all host shindigs. The party starts at 10 p.m. and includes the Twilight Movie Awards, where devotees can vote for Best Vampire, Best OME (Oh My Edward) Moment, Best Baseball Player and more, and have a chance to get a neat-o Borders exclusive edition of the DVD with special packaging, exclusive photo cards and a bonus disc full of interviews with Kristen Stewart, Edward Pattinson and the rest of the cast. Come and share your love for all things Edward and Bella, and chat about the upcoming sequel, “New Moon.”
For me, though, the cool DVD release of the weekend comes on Sunday when I can drive over to my local Best Buy and pick up a copy of Bolt on Blu-ray. What can I say, I’m a sucker for road-trip cartoons featuring a super dog and a hyper hamster in a ball. And Tuesday brings the latest James Bond adventure to store shelves, Quantum of Solace. That’s good if you like real action, and if you like spoofy cartoon action, there’s season three of “The Venture Bros.”
If you’re in the mood for going to the theater this weekend, you’ve got some options, from Nicolas Cage’s seems-interesting-but-could-suck-hard sci-fi thriller “Knowing” (it looks like “The Number 23″ crossed with “The Day After Tomorrow”), the Julia Roberts and Clive Owen caper flick “Duplicity,” and “I Love You, Man,” which I cannot wait to see. An interesting small film opening up this weekend at the Cinema Arts Theatre is “The Great Buck Howard,” about a law-school dropout (Colin Hanks) who attaches himself to a Z-list magician (John Malkovich), much to the chagrin of his dad (played by Hanks’ real-life dad, Tom).
Whatcha got going on this weekend? Let the rest of NoVa Pop Nation know in the comments, and have a great one!
