Give back by doing the ‘Time Warp,’ helping out doggies

rockyhorrorpictureshow_photo14A couple of benefit opportunities this week for those feeling philanthropic, starting with an event at the Cinema Arts Theatre. A midnight guilty pleasure at theaters all across the country, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be the main attraction at 9:30 p.m. There will be a live cast, and if you’ve been to a midnight showing of the 1975 cult hit, you know it’s fun but not for the faint o’ heart. So dress up in your best Dr. Frank N. Furter, Brad, Janet or Rocky costume and get in on the fun. Tickets are 10 bucks and proceeds will go toward area high schools’ Relay for Life program, in conjunction with the American Cancer Society. If you’re going to do the “Time Warp” again, do it for a good cause.

Also this week at the theater, the 9th NoVa International Jewish Film Festival kicks off at 7 p.m. Thursday with an opening night showing of “Beau Jest” and reception with filmmakers. Tickets for that are $30. The movies of the festival will be shown at Cinema Arts Theatre, the Arlington Spectrum in Rosslyn and the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington in Rockville. For a full slate of flicks, check out the schedule here. For more info, visit the festival’s website.

The other group that needs your help? The six cute doggies who were burned and injured during a kennel fire in Leesburg last month. Ranger, Rascal, Reckon, Ramey, Duchess and Sapphire made it out of the fire, which claimed the lives of 17 dogs and three horses. These hounds need extra veterinary care, food and medicine, so the Chantilly-based Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation has set up a Helping the Hounds fundraising campaign to raise money for their expenses. Donate if you’d like, and if you want to meet Sapphire, stop by the Reston Town Center Pet Fiesta from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

You going to see “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” Thursday at midnight? If so, let the rest of NoVa Pop Nation know below how it is. And here’s your video of the week, a little spoof of Hugh Jackman’s musical tendencies:
