Pumpkins

Northern Virginia was brushed with an unlikely snowfall October 29th 2011. Seizing this rare opportunity of two beautiful seasons colliding on my front steps, I ran outside barefoot to capture this frosty photo of a locally purchased pumpkin!

My husband and I bought a 33 lb. pumpkin to carve for Halloween. We didn’t want it to get damaged on the way home, so we buckled it up. I think that this photo is cute, yet it also serves as an important message to “Always Buckle Up!” We always want our “pumpkins” safe.

My 11-year-old son and I went on a trail run on the Cross County Connector Trail from Oakton up toward Great Falls and back. He loves Northern VA Trails! We are truly fortunate to live here close to these amazing parks.

Some jack-o-lantern lights always add a nice final touch to the Halloween decor. Love how you can see the lighted jack-o-lantern patterns as well.

Fall in my household always meant Football! Growing up a Washington Redskins fan is something I love passing down to my children!

I love to decorate for fall with its warm colors, interesting pumpkins, gourds and mums in Hokie colors! This fall decor is an annual tradition at our home.

Scenery

This Loudoun County Vineyard rests comfortable at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Rolling hills and tree lines surround the ripening grapes.

Stowie is only a year and a half old but she’s a miracle kitty and loves spending supervised trips to our Fairfax backyard. At only 6 weeks old, we found Stowie as a stow-a-way in the tirewell of a car where we believe she made at least one trip around 495… so she’s already experienced much of Northern VA! and then the vet tech made a mistake in filling a drug that almost killed her. Stowie spent the first 6 months of life going to the vet everyday for subQ fluids and it’s truly a miracle that she’s alive! We are blessed to have her as part of our family and she really seems to love spending time outside amongst the Fall flowers.

I call this photo, “Front Row Seats to Natural Beauty.” This was taken at Hillsborough Vineyards in Purcellville, VA. The breathtaking autumn scenery and vineyards are just two great reasons to take a Sunday drive through western Loudoun County.

Northern Virginia Magazine staff members and staff belonging to sponsoring companies providing prizes, as well as family members thereof, will be excluded from the contest.

The photo entry deadline is November 6, 2011. Voting for the best photos will be open to the public on www.NorthernVirginiaMag.com/fall-photos  from November 7 through November 15, 2011. Prizes are not redeemable for cash. Any interpretation of the prizes shall be made within the sponsoring companies’ sole discretion. Prizes are not transferable.
