Getting Agri-cultured

Purcellville Hosts Loudoun Grown Expo

By Warren Rojas

Purcellville Mayor Bob Lazaro remains proud of the thriving agricultural infrastructure that helps feed both his constituents and Loudoun County proper.

But rather than keep the wide array of locally sourced products all to himself, Lazaro wants to share LoCo’s bounty with the rest of the world—or, at the very least, the rest of Northern Virginia—during the inaugural Loudoun Grown Expo, to be held at the historic Bush Tabernacle February 19.

The one-stop shopping event will run from 2-6 p.m. and will feature free admittance for the general public. Lazaro plans to bring together up to 40 local vendors—which will hopefully provide a vivid cross-section of an agricultural community boasting over two dozen (and counting) wineries, 1,400-plus farms (occupying over 143,000 acres of active farmland), approaching a dozen weekly farmers markets (including Leesburg’s year-round market) and myriad farm-to-table restaurants—under one roof for everyone to taste, sip (at press time, Lazaro was still ironing out the tasting fee for participating wineries) and meet the folks who make meals happen all around Loudoun.
