Cheers to you. / Shutterstock/Natalia Bratslavsky.
If trying your hand at shuffleboard or playing a friendly game of darts sound like a fantastic way to relax after work, drive or metro (one block from Clarendon) on over to Spider Kelly’s for a rousing evening of semi-competitive fun and games at the “come as you are” neighborhood bar.
With brews on the cheap (read: $2 lites and Bud Lite bottles) and mixed drinks, too ($3.50 margaritas and mojitos), it’s no wonder that SK’s is a must-hit among the Clarendon strip. The after work crowd arrives early and bar stools quickly become a vanishing act so head over early for rockstar seating (aka an actual seat at the bar). If lounging if more of your prerogative, there are plenty of couches and café tables to seat the masses.
Wishing fall would hurry up and get here? Autumn is already in season at Spider Kelly’s. A new shipment of fall beers is now available for your drinking pleasure: Saranac Pumpkin Ale, Sam Adams Octoberfest and Sierra Tumbler.
Thirty-one HD TVs surround the bar, most likely featuring the latest news or Sportscenter updates. The fun and games continue as there are three 9-foot pool tables, plenty of dart boards, four shuffleboard tables plus Buckhunter video games on hand. Have great follow-through? Challenge a co-worker to a mini-basketball shooting game to see who buys the next round.
For some bar grub to help you power through another round or three of pool, check out their appetizers: tator tots topped with cheddar and jack cheese go for $6 or crispy fried pickles with buttermilk ranch for dipping are $5. On the sandwich front, one patron swears by the classic breakfast sandwich (available any time of day) – the BEC (bacon, egg and cheese) on white or multi-grain toast. Or order the grilled mahi mahi tacos, served with a small mountain of shredded cabbage, pico de gallo and guacamole, for a surprisingly filling entree.
