Eilen Jewell sports a sweet blonde bob, has those doe-like blue eyes, and is often holding a wood-grained acoustic guitar. But, as the bio on her website warns: There is more to Eilen than meets the eye.

Her latest album, Queen of the Minor Key, channels the soulful vocals, blues-y beats and gritty, southern rock found in the likes of True Blood (HBO). Some songs are downright intoxicating, like “Only One,” with a slinking tempo and melody that just drips with longing (think Billie Holiday). Others, like title song “Queen of the Minor Key,” are much quicker, tapping into an alternative country/bluegrass pace but with haunting harmonies that contrast a dark edge that is hard to ignore.
With seven albums (including an EP, a side project, and a tribute to Loretta Lynn), Eilen Jewell has already received some impressive praise from places like NPR and American Songwriter. She has played in numerous festivals in the U.S. and in Europe and now, this Boston-based artist is gracing the stage in Arlington, Virginia at IOTA Club and Cafe, tonight!
The show is $15 and doors open at 8 p.m.
