They are coming… to eat your brains! Prepare to test how fast you can run from a zombie in a potential apocalypse at the inaugural “Blood and Guts Run: Zombies: Next 5K” at Pev’s Paintball Park on Sunday. This is certainly no ordinary run.

Though the 5K may start out as a brisk run through the woods, the trail gets creepier and harder to pass through with flesh-eating zombies and other terrifying monsters lurking in every corner of the woods. Did I mention the 5K is also an obstacle course? Climb walls, crawl through tunnels and get down and dirty in a blood and guts pit to escape from the walking dead. Massive logs and countless other barriers will challenge your ability to out-run the undead.

For those runners who do make it out of the woods alive, they will receive a “Blood and Guts” T-shirt and congratulatory medal for completing the gut-wrenching challenge.

Not much of a runner? Sign up to volunteer as a zombie and enjoy scaring the wits out of the runners. Up to 50-100 zombie actors will be put in costume and make-up and scattered in the woods ready to swarm innocent bystanders.

Arranged by Max Bawarski, physical education teacher at Providence Elementary School in Fairfax City, the zombie run was a way of mixing his love for running and one of his favorite holidays. “I’ve been looking to do an event like this for a while.  I have a passion for fitness and I love Halloween so I wanted to tie the two together,” said Bawarski.

The proceeds gained from the event will go towards several charities including the American Cancer Society, Military and Veterans Associations and Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William school districts.

Pev’s Paintball Park is also home to TERRORville, the biggest Halloween Park in NoVA. The park provides paintball every day of the week and laser tag on the weekends. Check out their website for their days and times of operation.
