Whether your favorite stories are about that mischievous feline dressed in his fancy hats, an old green kleptomaniac or that very confused egg-laying-elephant, it’s easy to agree that stories of Dr. Seuss had a profound impact on your childhood.
With 46 books; which have inspired 11 television specials, four feature films and even a Broadway musical; Dr. Seuss’ impact on children’s literature demands he has his own holiday. This year on March 2, Dr. Seuss would have turned 110 years old. To honor his birthday, the National Education Association will be celebrating Read Across America Day.

The eighth annual festival, Reading: A Family Affair, will be March 1, at the James Lee Community Center in Falls Church. The biggest Seussian event, the festival is held by the Literary Council of Northern Virginia. Check back for tomorrow’s Game Plan for more information about the events.
The Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton will be hosting its own celebration in the form of a mini-camp from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for children ages six to 10. They will meet the infamous Hat wearing Cat, enjoy Green Eggs and Ham and make Seuss-themed Arts and Crafts.
If listening to the rhymes and meter of Dr. Seuss is up your alley, Libraries all over Northern Virginia will be having read-a-longs and story time throughout the weekend. On Monday at 10 a.m., the Barnes & Nobles in Fair Lakes will be having a story time as well.
Will you eat it with a fox?
If your way of honoring the good doctor is more in culinary appreciation, but you’re not sure how to make those many exotic foods come to life (though not literally), we have discovered what can make those eggs green. A new spin on the titular dish of Green Eggs and Ham, looks to delicious to share. For a simpler recipe, try adding a drop of blue food coloring to your milk when making scrambled eggs to turn it a nice green.
Last January, a Northern Virginia couple had a Dr. Seuss Themed Wedding, proving that Dr. Seuss related inspiration is not limited to children. His legacy will live on, and his books will continue to enthrall and delight its readers, inspiring a love of the written word. Enjoy your Dr. Seuss Day.
