Denny’s Doles Out Free Sammiches

I’m guessing their Super Bowl advertising blitz must have been a rousing success because Denny’s is offering a free Grand Slamwich (a $6.99 savings) with the purchase of any Grand Slam breakfast till 2 p.m. today.

Their latest mealtime monolith features two scrambled eggs, seasoned sausage, shaved ham, bacon, American cheese and mayonnaise pressed between grilled, maple-spiced potato bread (sounds like someone wants in on the McGriddle’s marke sharet).
Now, I’m all for free grub.
But the whole maple-infused bread thing sounds like a dealbreaker to me. I’m the type of lunatic that prefers his Monte Cristo drowning in hollandaise–a la D.C.’s Dubliner–rather than marred by raspberry preserves.
Which is why I suspect the Moons Over My Hammy (Swiss and American cheeses, eggs and ham on grilled sourdough; toss the hash browns into the mix for added crunch) will remain my Denny’s go-to. At least until someone resurrects the glorious Good Morning Burger (two patties, over easy egg, bacon, ham) compiled by Colonel Mustard’s Phabulous Phatburgers.
