Downtown Fairfax has gotten significantly more “irie” since the Caribbean Corner opened its doors.
The glorified carry-out may not be much to look at–the subterranean shop holds approximately 1.5 tables and shares restrooms with an adjoining Subway location–but the authentic Jamaican food begs further investigation.
Owner/operator Anthony Richards covers his bases with standards like curry goat (stewed meat is soaked through with fire) and jerk chicken(tender bird). The star attractions, however, are his semi-regular specialty dishes like stew beef (Tuesday only) and jerk pork (mouthwatering swine is kept under wraps till Friday).
Meanwhile, freshly baked meat patties (buttery shell, zesty filling) make for terrific everyday eating.
4008-A University Drive, Fairfax; 703-246-9040. Open for lunch and dinner, Monday through Saturday.
