Happy Bloomsday!

Posted by The Editorial Desk / Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

No worries.  You don’t need to have read the 700+ page novel to celebrate this holiday.  Just bring along your Irish enthusiasm and a healthy thirst.

Ulysses, acclaimed as the greatest English-language novel (have they adjusted this list since The Prisoner of Azkaban?) follows the footsteps of Leopold Bloom for one day.  That day, my friends, is today – June 16.

Though you may not be able to eat a gorgonzola sandwich at Davy Byrne’s, and you may not have the stomach for a steak and kidney pie, you can get yourself to the closest pub and raise your glass to this stately, not-so-plump Irish author.

With antique décor salvaged from monasteries and castles around Ireland, you may wonder if you’ve stepped into Dublin at Daniel O’Connell’s pub.

McMahon’s Irish Pub hosts a happy hour from 3-7pm with appetizers under $5 and drink specials.

There’s good craic to be found at O’Faolain’s with pub quizzes tonight at 9p.m. alongside food and drink specials.

Irelands Four Courts boasts of traditional Irish cuisine and hospitality.  They also have half-off appetizers from 4-8p.m.

For a cozy spot to bring your copy of Ulysses, try the fireside at The Hunter’s Head Tavern.
