Some may write a poem, some may build a monument, or if you are a member of the new charitable organization in town – DC Foodies Do Good – you can give back to your community by cooking and serving a meal. The organization is led by culinary instructor and fellow foodie Robyn Webb, and provides a service event each month to benefit the homeless, the military, and others who might be hungry for a good meal.
This Sunday, they’ll be “serving those who serve” a BBQ lunch at Arlington’s Fort Meyer. The feast will feed injured soldiers and their families as a kind gesture of appreciation and a great way to use one’s culinary skills to do good. I mean, you can’t exactly eat a poem – much less get all your daily nutrients from it. The picnic-style menu will feature in-season ingredients, healthy salads and grilled foods to cater to nutritional needs as well as hunger. DC Foodies Do Good provides interaction with the community it serves. Instead of writing a check, one can donate personal time and see the results by sharing a meal and food enthusiasm with others.
If you wish to register for the event or contribute to future events, please see the website - DC Foodies Do Good.
