The Future Clarendon Roll Call

Posted by The Editorial Desk / Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

The rumors of restaurants leasing and making tentative reservations for a space in Clarendon are popping about like a vat of uncovered popcorn.  It’s chaotic and making my head spin.  I’ve made this list to catch all the kernels I could in one place, in a nicely obsessive, as-close-to-chronological-as-I-could-get order.

Fire Works PizzaAugust 18

Take a few peeks at the designs and progress.

Crumbs Bake ShopDecember

Pete’s New Haven Apizza – some point this winter (terribly vague, I know)

TangySweet and Red Velvet CupcakeryDecember or January

BGR The Burger Joint and Burapa Thai Restaurant – by end of the year

I love me some pizza and sweets, but I’m certainly appreciating the Greek and Thai for variety.

A bit more on the side of rumors and but-still-legit speculation:

A Hookah Lounge too?  Someone pinch me.  This is starting to look like what would happen if my SimCity came to life.

Mad Rose Tavern – I think the former site of the Top Secret Defense Intelligence Agency could add some excellent character to a watering hole…

  • Matchbox Pizza – 2013?
  • A chat with Matchbox Partner Perry Smith revealed that the idea has yet to sprout wings.  “We’re looking at a couple of prospects.  We love the idea of getting over there, but there’s no deal in the works right now,” Smith says.  If they did decide to commit to the area, they’d be looking at beginning construction in 2013.  “We’re patient,” he adds.

Well, that’s the restaurant roll call so far.  If you know of any others I may have missed in the flurry, please holla back now.  Which openings are you anticipating most?

For me, I think I may be moving to Clarendon – stat.

For those of us on the other side of Rt. 50, there are lots of great South Arlington dining options, too! We’re lucky that Clarendon is just a couple of miles away. I wonder if any of these shops will open up at the new Penrose Square next year…

I’m looking forward to those new venues! I also heard a rumor of Trader Joe’s coming to Clarendon.
