I have never been a big fan of salad. I dislike iceberg lettuce with a passion. I have tried covering it in tomatoes, red pepper flakes, and even a cup of ranch dressing, but I still can’t say that I like it. Even the places that cover iceberg in blue cheese and bacon can’t get me to order their salad.

I finally got into salads when I had the Poached Pear salad at Busboys & Poets in Arlington. A salad of mixed greens was topped with pears, goat cheese, caramelized onions, and pecans then drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette.
Busboys & Poets also offers many other flavorful salads including a Steak and Asparagus Salad, Greek Salad, and Spinach and Wheat Berry Salad.

Spinach is a vegetable that I love prepared in any way- sauteed in olive oil, in salads, or stuffed inside chicken. I think spinach salads are more flavorful than iceberg salads and they also bring a healthy dose of vitamins. Strawberry spinach salad is easy to make at home and meal that is packed full of flavor and vitamins. This would be a great salad to make the day after having a heavy meal on Thanksgiving or Christmas.

If you think you hate salad, find a salad that lists ingredients you like and try it out. It may not become your favorite meal, but it may surprise you.
