An update to: The State of NoVA Beer, Breweries and Brewpubs
Loudoun County is adding another brewery with the addition of Crooked Run Brewing. Jake Endres—to-be owner and brewmaster—says he’ll start funding the project on Kickstarter shortly and hopes to open doors within three months’ time.
While working for Endless Summer Harvest, a hydroponic farm in Purcellville, Endres says he’s had “great opportunities to meet local producers [and] establish connections with area restaurants.” As an avid grower, he also cultivates his own hops, barley malt and blackberries.
Endres says he’s interested in American, Belgian and English ales in addition to high gravity and sour beers. His goal is to brew four year-round beers at Crooked Run—”Hopsail, a Belgian single, Heartsong, a Belgian dubbel, Nature’s Warden, a hoppy brown ale, and Storm, an American IPA.”
He also plans to brew a line of bottled beers called the Master Series, focusing on locally sourced, eclectic ingredients. “One example is Realize Truth,” says Endres, ”a Belgian quadrupel made with elderberry juice from Village Winery in Waterford.”
Each beer will be brewed using a state-of-the-art setup that Endres designed to be energy efficient, accurate and consistent.
“If I had to describe what I strive for in two words,” he says, “it would be ‘simple elegance.’”
