5 Tips to Stay on Track During the Holidays

High-profile trainer Jason DeHenzel gives you tips on for maintaining your workout routine as the mercury fails.

It’s no secret that this time of year can be a tough time to stay on track when it comes to a fitness routine. Between holiday parties, family gatherings and travel, fitness tends to take a backseat until after the New Year. To avoid the holiday slump, here are five tips to stay on track during the holiday season:

1) Have a Plan – Create a workout plan for the holiday season by highlighting fitness days for each week. Strive to stick with the plan. Having a plan in place is a recipe for success and key for staying on track.

 

2) Enlist a Workout Partner – Grab a partner to workout with such as a family member or friend. Not only does this allow for some quality time together, but it also makes the workout a little more fun.

 

3) Plan Out Indulgences –Rather than indulging on holiday cookies and drinks with every meal, plan and choose one meal to enjoy a splurge and do so in moderation. This creates a more mindful approach to eating and will lead to a trimmer waistline during the holidays.

 

4) Do a Shorter Workout – Spending an hour or two in the gym over the holidays isn’t always ideal. Shorter workouts are a great way to get in an efficient workout in a small amount of time. Pick four or five exercises and perform them in a circuit fashion. Complete the circuit as many times as possible for 20-30 minutes.

 

5) Try a New Activity – Rather than doing the same old workout routine, mix it up a little bit. Go for a winter hike, try some indoor rock climbing or ice-skating. Incorporating new and fun fitness activities is a great way to keep workouts from becoming too mundane. These activities are also great to do with friends.
