Happy Friday, shoppers! If your weekend plans include heading into the District — perhaps to go ice skating at the Sculpture Garden, to see “Jersey Boys” (AMAZING!) at National Theatre or to take some photos in front of the Capitol Christmas Tree — make sure to carve out a little time for some shopping. Today the 5th Annual Downtown Holiday Market opens on the sidewalks in front of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery (F St. NW between 7th and 9th).

To be open daily from noon to 8 p.m. through Wednesday, Dec. 23, the market features an eclectic group of over 180 exhibitors, including many from NoVA, with artisans rotating on a weekly basis. No matter when you visit, you’ll find a diverse array of high-quality items, perfect for gift giving, including fine art, crafts, jewelry, pottery, photography and clothing — not to mention tasty treats and hot beverages to keep you well-fed and toasty, and a wide range of local musicians and bands to keep you fully entertained and energized.

If you plan to drive there, parking is located nearby at the City Center lot at 9th and New York Ave. If you plan to travel by Metro, you’ll want to take the red, yellow or green line to Gallery Place.

Have a wonderful weekend!

This sounds like a good opportunity to get some unique gifts. Speaking of gifts…. Any idea where to get some great crystal drinking glasses? On sale, perhaps?
