Celebrating the Beautiful Game
Good morning shoppers, or should I say, “Sawubona”! (This means “Good morning” in Zulu, a common language spoken in South Africa.) Today is the official start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup!
For one month, we will be on the edge of our seats watching uncomfortably close games, calls by referees that have us questioning their sanity, heart-breaking mistakes by beloved players, heart-racing mistakes by the competition, defeats and victories. It’s a beautiful game, and I have just as beautiful news and deals to share with you on this game day.
Live Soccer TV has released a list of bars and pubs in Virginia that are the best spots for us local soccer fans to eat drink, and watch this year’s World Cup. The featured bars are celebrating the month-long event with game specials, prizes, brackets and full coverage of each game. Each venue promises a clear view of the game and a lively atmosphere that will get you in the spirit. Check out the full list at livesoccertv.com.
If you wish you could be in South Africa for the World Cup this year, then you are in luck! J. Gilbert’s in McLean is celebrating the World Cup witha World Cup Wine Tasting next Tuesday that will make you feel as though you have just made the trip (minus that long flight). For $30 a person, you can experience South African wines and appetizers that will introduce you to the tastes and traditions of the beautiful land. To reserve your spot, call 703-893-1034.
And now back to you fashionistas! Don’t forget about the Summer Shopping Stroll in Old Town Alexandria starting today! For the entire weekend, stores in the Old Town Boutique District (OTBD) will have special discounts, fun events and prizes to celebrate summer.
Have a fabulous weekend and go, USA! Don’t forget to buy one of these!
