Fashion Fights Poverty

Posted by The Editorial Desk / Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

Hello there, shoppers! I know you’re already looking forward to Friday, and what a Friday it will be. On Oct. 15 from 7-10 p.m., Fashion Fights Poverty, the nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness about poverty through fashion, will be hosting its 6th annual benefit at Arlington’s new Artisphere cultural center.

Proceeds of the event will support FFP’s community youth programs, including globally sustainable projects at Woodrow Wilson High School aimed at creating income-generating or microfinancing opportunities for the disadvantaged in developing countries.

This year’s theme, “Raw,” is about “nurturing untapped creative energy, asserting creativity over trends, artisanship over mass-production, natural fibers over synthetics, young ideas over cynicism and opportunity over poverty.” Pakistani designer Nomi Ansari, whose studio supplies pret-a-porter and Eastern and Western couture to Dubai, India, the United Kingdom and the U.S.,  will be the showcased designer. The design house is known for their creative use of colors by combining five or more in their signature pieces.

Lover of vintage looks designer Chez Kevito and locally based funny T-shirts company Crooked Monkey will also be presenting. It should be quite a show!

Tickets are $77.75 online now. Get them while you can.
