Shopping Simplified: American Eagle Gets Tech-Savvy

Hello, shoppers!

Well, they had to do it sometime. American Eagle Outfitters, and their two sister brands aerie and 77kids, have launched mobile shopping apps!

Many on the American Eagle Outfitters email lists were told they could save 20 percent by just installing the app on their phones. Once installed, customers could earn 25 AEREWARDS$ from signing into their AEREWARD$ account on the mobile app. The incentive made me do it. Once I installed the app, I received the coupon.

As far as features go, there is a check-in tab in the upper left corner and a scan tab in the upper right corner. Similar to other clothing store apps, the respective American Eagle Outfitter apps have a section for most popular looks and a section for mobile offers. There is also a style mixer; you shake or scroll through tops and bottoms to find a new combination of looks. By tapping the middle tab at the top, you can go to the aerie, American Eagle or 77 kids mobile sites.

The one problem I don’t like about this app is that it takes so long to load — maybe there was just especially high demand at the jump. That can get kind of annoying when in a hurry. Some reviewers also complain that the apps freeze or force close often.

Check out the AE, aerie and 77kids free mobile apps on the Android market and in the iTunes Store.
