Five Great Gifts for Veterans

Hello, shoppers!

We’re down to the Christmas wire and with all of the veterans coming home, some of us are a little stumped as to what would make the perfect gift to give them in an expression of our gratitude. Well, shoppers we’re in luck. The Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation (PenFed Foundation) released a list of five great gifts both individuals and businesses can give to vets this holiday season, all by supporting the PenFed Foundation.

According to the press release, they are:

  1. A down payment on a vet’s first home.
Give the gift of supporting the foundation’s Dream Makers Program, which provides grants to veterans and their families to cover the down payment and closing costs on their first home.
  2. Free childcare.
Support the foundation’s Military Heroes Fund, which provides wounded soldiers with free childcare assistance while they undergo medical care. Families of the wounded face many financial stresses and often cannot afford even reduced daycare costs.
  3. Financial education and counseling.
Support the foundation and help work to ensure that those who selflessly devoted their lives to the defense of our country have the resources they need for a secure financial future. Help prevent medical emergencies from turning into financial hardships for our nation’s defenders.
  4. Lodging while undergoing medical care.
Give the gift of supporting the Defenders Lodge, a new lodging facility in Palo Alto, Calif., that the PenFed Foundation is building to support thousands of veterans who travel from all over the West Coast and Pacific Rim to undergo medical treatment at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Palo Alto for injuries sustained while serving our country.
  5. Emergency loans to get back on their feet.
Support the foundation’s ARK program, which provides eligible military members with no-interest loans as an alternative to predatory lenders. ARK was designed to be as easy as a payday loan, but without the negative consequences. The goal is to rebuild or repair credit, improve cash flow and increase money-management skills.
