Big Shopping News for Brides-to-Be

Posted by Natalie Kaar / Monday, February 14th, 2011

Hello there, shoppers! Happy Valentine’s Day!

For any of you who recently got engaged — congrats, by the way, to my cuz and his oh-so-stunning soon-to-be-wife — or who may become betrothed a little later today, big news on the bridal gown front: Today is the highly anticipated launch of Anthropologie’s bridal line, BHLDN! Also, Vera Wang has launched a bargain line for David’s Bridal, White by Vera Wang! From what I’ve seen of both so far, amazing! As much as I love, love, loved my gown by Lazaro, like my friend Laura says, “It may be time for a re-commitment ceremony.”

BHLDN’s whimsical gowns will cost you $600 to $4,000, come in sizes 0-14, and may be ordered online (returns are available on unaltered dresses within 30 days) or via phone; standard shipping is just $10. Perhaps even more fun than the dresses, though, are the accessories, especially the hair adornments and the shoes!

BHLDN Pinwheel Tea Dress, $1,400 (fab accessories pictured also available)

White by Vera Wang gowns run $600 to $1,400 and are available by special order, in sizes 0-14,  from select David’s Bridal stores including NoVA stores in Woodbridge and Springfield. Headwear and sashes are also included in the collection; bridesmaid gowns and shoes will be added later in the year, along with sizes up to 26 in select designs.

Happy shopping!

Limited-edition duvets are a “must have” from DVF home with archival prints from her RTW collection.

·        Kate Spade –  Exclusive to Bloomingdale’s, Kate Spade brings her signature style to the bedroom. Also look for new patterns to be introduced in the designer’s tabletop collection.

·        Barbara Berry luggage Famed interior designer Barbara Berry launches a unique collection of luggage that was especially created with the female traveler in mind — featuring details such as a special packer to help you organize entire outfits and hidden pockets for packing jewelry.

TRENDS

Michael Aram’s version of under-the-sea coral via a silver cheese knife and spreader and his silver shell décor.

·        Bloomie’s Beach – Since you’re sure to be inspired to hit the real beach after creating your own indoor oasis, why not do it in style? Bloomingdale’s is debuting an extensive collection of bright and bold beach towels that are sure to make a statement. From Sky Beach to Bloomingdale’s own collection, there will be the perfect towel to match every swimsuit.

Or opt for globally inspired prints like those available in the Bloomingdale’s quilt collection, or bedding by Natori.

·        Bold colors The Bohemian palette is an eclectic mix of high-octane hues like mandarin orange, lemon yellow, hot pink, and lime – all of which promise to awaken your senses. You’ll see these colors mixed and matched throughout the home department on everything from KitchenAid and Cuisinart gadgets to the Kosta Boda “Mine” glass tabletop collection that is perfect for entertaining.

·        Nature’s Best – Materials inspired by nature’s best are essential when exploring the bohemian vibe. Bloomingdale’s will be the place to find such pieces as exotic animals prints like zebra or leopard, as well as wood pieces such as serving pieces from Nambe’s “Anil” collection.

Happy shopping! Thanks again, Bloomie’s!

Shopping Soirees, a New NoVA Store to Stalk & More

Posted by The Editorial Desk / Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Floral Print Full Skirt, $88 (White House Black Market)

Hello there, shoppers! While it’s very cold outside — nearly froze my tail off doing some early-morning errands — things are really heating up on the local shopping scene, just as things are heating up in NYC for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

A quick peek at some of the fun out there for ya:

Today at Periwinkle, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Potomac Green location and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. at Shirlington Village, there will be a pre-Valentine’s Day Party with cupcakes for all plus a free pair of Hanky Panky panties with each purchase.

Then tomorrow, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.,  Circe of Alexandria is offering its salon and spa clients a very special, timely, service also in honor of the favorite/feared holiday on Feb. 14: a complimentary, private 10-minute love advice session with a professional matchmaker. Krista, director of the D.C.-based dating service It’s Just Lunch, will be at Circe to answer clients’ questions about dating as well as ways to spice up lasting relationships, including marriage. Complimentary refreshments — chocolate, anyone? — will be available to Circe guests as well. To speak with the matchmaker, clients simply have to have a Circe appointment booked for the month of February.

Another thing to get excited about, shoppers: Reston will be receiving a White House Black Market at Reston Town Center this spring, oh-so appropriately located on Market Street.

And, finally, for those fashionistas fortunate enough to make it to Fashion Week festivities in New York this weekend/next week, it looks like you may not only run into the women from the “Real Housewives of New York City”; you could run into Sheree and Dwight from “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” Both are confirmed to attend the first annual EMERGE event from D. Williams Public Relations and Beautiful Planning Public Relations & Marketing, a runway event to feature emerging designers including Terri Stevens from “Project Runway” at Sun West Studios on Feb. 15.

Happy shopping!

Sure Things: Linari Diffusers

Posted by The Editorial Desk / Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

Linari Diffuser in the heavenly Malva scent (amazon.com)

Hello there, shoppers! In this installment of Sure Things, it’s all about heavenly scents for the home. And that means one thing: Linari diffusers.

My personal favorite scent is Malva, but there are so many that are fantastic! While these diffusers cost far more than grocery store-grade ones ($120 at Amazon, $112 at Vienna’s Valerianne), the difference in quality, if you ask me, is very apparent. The scents are sensational! Plus, the things last practically forever. I’ve had one keeping my guest bathroom smelling beautiful since September 2009, and it’s still not empty.

You may wonder how I know what month in which it was purchased. Well, I kept track because while I trust Aimee Wedlake at Valerianne wholeheartedly, when she told me that they can last a year, I had to see for myself exactly how long it would.

No wonder Bazin’s on Church, downstairs from the fabulous store, has been known to use them in their restrooms. The things can turn a washroom into a wondrous place.

Happy shopping!
