First things first: There’s a dating app out there that can best be described as “Yelp for singles.”
Lulu, which has somehow slipped under my radar and been around since February 2013, lets women rate and review men as they date them. Then, other women can read said reviews of men.
So males become like pizza shops, hotels, rec centers or any other place or product. Alrighty then.
I’ve long joked about how useful male suitor report cards would be. If ex-girlfriends provided feedback on their past boyfriends, if men listed off their relationship history like a resume on LinkedIn. Wow, the power of this type of information.
Lulu doesn’t quite get to this point but it goes some of the way. The notion is ladies sharing insider intel with each other. They can warn the fellow members of their gender about a trouble player and heed them off at the pass.
It’s certainly a controversial idea, so much so that one of Lulu’s latest changes is to allow guys to opt out of being reviewed if they so choose. To me, that just might defeat the whole purpose of the bold application’s unique pursuitl.
The other new aspect that Lulu has taken on is information. The folks behind the app, this summer, combined the wealth of data they have about men nationwide.
Then, they combined into a jam-packed map that diagnoses men and breaks them down by area. The map displays what guys are like in each city with hashtagged evaluations.
For instance:
In Seattle, a prototypical man #StillLovesHisEx yet #HoldsHisLiquor and #DoesHisOwnLaundry
A gent in San Francisco probably has a #WorkEthic but also a #QuestionableSearchHistory. Given the abundance of tech startups and techies, this would make a bit of sense.
Dallas and Chicago both have hashtags to reflect an above-average amount of bros. At least, though, in Chicago men also possess #GreatHair and #HoldsHisLiquor too. (Apparently someone who can drink is an ongoing theme in this map and is supposed to be viewed as a super admirable trait to us ladies). A Dallas dude, while maybe a bro, also #OpensDoors and has #StrongHands.
Back East, the worst issue you’ll have with Boston males is that they want to be #JustFriends. On the flip side, women said these Bostonians #CharmedMyPantsOff.
Sex seems to the theme of the day in the Big Apple. The characterization for New York include #PantyDropper, #BedroomEyes and let’s not forget #PornEducated.
Well, what about our lovely area? The map boils us down to D.C. and our men, based on Lulu’s information: #MothersLoveHim and of course, in this land of over-achievement, he has a #4.0GPA. The downside that Lulu data found is that a typical man in the Washington area will #HitItAndQuitIt.
While boiling down a gender to a few hashtags is not the most fair activity, keep in mind that this was done using real reviews from ladies based in the city described. I can understand the perception of males here as goodie-goodies and academic-minded. Hell, I’ve complained that career success, their job and networking certainly seem to rank higher than more freely conversing and sharing personal information on dates.
And at least D.C. doesn’t suffer from a #Broverdose like the Windy City.
