Once upon a time, I was a regular at the Springfield Hard Times. Seriously, my now husband and I went every week at least for years! Their Texas wings are my absolute favorite wings in the world and their Terlingua red chili is stellar!
And then the service gradually deteriorated until it was really frustrating almost every time we went. The bar is fun, but it gets SO smoky and hot. Finally, the day came when I was sitting in a booth, enjoying my chili mac when we were joined by a visitor...a large german cockroach was running on MY freaking side of the table right for my plate. I fuh-LIPPED out and started screaming and trying frantically to claw over my husband to get out of the booth. God bless him, he reached over, killed the bug with a napkin, and called the manager. She was very nice, trying desperately to assure us that this never happened, etc. And I knew that, really, they can come from anywhere. It mattered not. I had a roach try to jump in my dinner. There is just no going back from that. |
