Discriminatory!
Written by akstellc on 1/8/2010

Rene was the most rude and discriminating person at our dinner. My husband and I were out of town, came to Serbian on recommendations. We found ourselves being joked at because we were young and affluent. They tried to fool us on more than three occasions and we were too educated to fall for it. (Sturgeon Caviar is not from Salmon-duh! Roasted suckling pig is not saturated with port sauce that is $1.45 different from the price of the "port suckling pig" special! However we were polite and paid for our meal regardless with NO TIP! Not only never going back, we are on a tirade to make sure others do not experience a $231 .00 meal that we did, with so much discrimination! Just plain WRONG! We had caviar (which the waiter said was from a salmon- I am certainly more educated than that- we had sturgeon caviar @ $90.00-I'd never pay more than $10.00 for salmon roe which has absolutely zero similarities to sturgeon caviar, he was uneducated about his own menu!), Caesar salad, suckling pig and steak tar tare. The Caesar and Tar tare were delicious and the woman who prepared them was gracious and kind. The Suckling pig was a true let down. They had a special on the menu for "Suckling Pig in Port Wine Sauce" at $32.50 and on the regular menu "Roasted Suckling Pig" for $33.95. (Big price difference huh?) I asked the waiter to describe each menu item because I told him preferred a crispy skin, dry roasted, and without any sauce. He then suggested to go with the roasted version which I did. The plate came out with sauce all over the pig and he said they both had sauce- even though this one tasted exactly like a "port reduction". Hmmm... I returned the item and he brought out a new plate minus the sauce. The pig tasted and felt like dry old leather- including the skin, no wonder they needed a sauce! My husband asked for the owner- Rene, and we point blank asked him the difference in the special and regular menu item and why the price difference was so nominal. Well, he went into a fit, did not answer us, dramatically threw his hands in the air and said he'd fire our waiter for the mistake. The waiter came back laughing- we heard them both laughing around the corner which we were appalled by, and he asked if we needed anything. My husband, with great concern, asked if he just got fired and he laughed saying "no, he's my brother, he's just kidding." Well, that was it! We were so disgusted with their behavior and lack of service that, not having even eaten a 1/4 of our meal, politely paid for the full bill and left. We did not make a scene or argue about being charged for everything. Rene was by the door as we left and cowardly ducked between us out of the way. I truly believe we were discriminated against since we were not "Great Falls" regulars and in our late 20's.. My husband and I will never go back, and neither will our vast family members and friends in the Great Falls and NOVA area. Besides, for the same one ounce of caviar in the evening at $90.00, you can get exactly the same caviar at $45.00 for lunch. What a rip off! They and every other restaurant should always treat every customer with the same service and respect as their oldest, most loyal customers.

My husband took me to this restaurant for my birthday and we enjoyed it a lot. They have a nice list of different flavored Vodkas. We tried several and they were great! The food was also very nice and the menu has something for everyone. You can go conservative, as you can go adventurous, since they have rare dishes like Kangaroo! They also have music during the weekends, which was nice. The only thing we did not like was that it took more than 45 minutes for them to bring us the cartes/menus! Super SLOW service!!! We were not in a hurry, or we would have left. We were hungry, though, and we did not appreciate the wait. Once they served us, it was really good and the servers were friendly. Try it, but make sure you have time...

This place is aces. Its like walking into a small cafe in Russia 30 years ago. This is the most unusual menu I've ever seen. the only thing that rivals that is the food itself.
