I see so many great reviews here, but I don't get it. The place is so noisy and crowded - people waiting for admittance pack the area near the hostess, and bump against those seated - and the steaks are nothing fabulous, I've had as good and better elsewhere. No cocktails, no parking, marginal service, no side dishes ... spend a little more and go someplace nice, or go to Outback. |

We were being served by the hostess and two different waitresses at the same time, and they didn’t seem to communicate with each other on what stage in our meal we were at. The spicy cashews were great, but the bread was thick, dense, dry, and pretty much flavorless.
So, yeah, the steak is cheap, but is it good? Honestly, I didn’t order the steak here. I don’t like steak, so I got the scallops. Each steak entree comes with a side of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. I couldn’t believe the constant pressure we were getting to finish quickly, it was obvious that they were trying to turn tables quickly. Little things like this, in service, really irk me. It can really put a damper on the whole experience.
The decor in Ray’s is nicer than it’s previous location. It looks like a clean seafood/steakhouse inside, with wood and white and windows. It did seem like a starker version of a downtown restaurant, with no personalization at all. I guess you pay for the cheap prices, not personality though. I’m glad that I went to this restaurant, but I shall not be visiting again. |

The simple no-frills anti-corporate atmosphere can get pretty noisy as echos of conversation bounch off the bare walls. However, the food is what people are here for, not ambiance! The appetizers range from soups & salads to deviled eggs & superb steak tartare. Each spoonful of the crab bisque is filled with huge morsels of the crustucean. However, the steaks are superlative in portion and price. Their Signature Steak (a 28oz bone-in rib eye) is a good option for first-timers who don't want to be overwhelmed. It's perfectly charred on the outside, a warm red on the inside, with perfect amounts of fat lining the edges. Sides of creamed spinach & mashed potatoes are complimentary & never-ending. Simple, yet hearty and of course, tasty! |
