	2011 St. Jude Give Thanks Walk by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital November 19, 6:30 a.m. Join us on Saturday, Nov. 19, as St. Jude supporters from the Woodbridge and Northern Virginia communities join with 80 cities nationwide to come together and participate in the St. Jude Give thanks. Walk. to raise money for the children of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The Walk is being held at Potomac Mills Mall starting at the Food Court. Check-in begins at 6:30 a.m. and the Walk starts at 7:45 a.m. Registration for this family-friendly event is free! 	Taste of Fall Presented by FACETS October 22 Save the Date! A Taste of Fall with FACETS will be held in the evening of October 22, 2011 – and we’re moving this spectacular event to Fairfax City, at the newly opened Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center. 	Second Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Event at The Medical Spa at Nova October 19, 5:30-8 p.m. The Medical Spa at Nova and WD Designs Awareness Jewelry reveal the success of the second annual breast cancer awareness event at The Medical Spa at Nova with a significant increase in both attendance and fundraising efforts. Held on Wednesday, Oct. 19, this year’s event saw an increase in funds raised by more than 140% from its inaugural year. Attendance doubled with approximately 100 attendees and the event raised $5,850 for Tigerlily Foundation, an organization dedicated to educating, supporting, and empowering young women – ages 15 – 40 – before, during, and after the diagnosis of breast cancer. “We are thrilled to announce such astonishing growth and success” says Dr. Grace Keenan, CEO and Medical Director of Nova Medical & Urgent Care Center, Inc. “The proceeds from our event will help fund Tigerlily’s special educational and support programs which are designed to improve the overall quality of life for young adult breast cancer survivors. 	The Fourth Annual Redskins Rides Car Show October 8, noon-6 p.m. The Fourth Annual Redskins Rides Car Show features classic and exotic cars. It’s also a great chance to see Redskins players bring out their rides! Competition categories include Classic, Custom, Import, and Special Interest for all exhibitors and Top Redskins Ride for the players. Fans can get their Redskins gear autographed by the players while enjoying food and live music. It’s a great community event for Redskins fans and car enthusiasts alike! 	D.C. Walk to EmpowerMay 9Washington, D.C.Northern Virginia Magazine is extremely proud to sponsor Breast Cancer Network of Strength’s Walk to Empower for the fifth consecutive year. The organization provides immediate emotional relief to area breast cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones through a YourShoes™ 24/7 breast cancer support hotline (staffed by breast cancer survivors) and other essential programs and services. Each year, in order to continue doing so at no cost to those they help, the organization hosts their Walk to Empower fundraising event on Mother’s Day in cities across the United States. The event in our area is held on the National Mall, where last year more than 2,500 people came out to show their support and together raised nearly $275,000! 	32nd Annual Old Town Warrenton Spring FestivalMay 15WarrentonOnce again, Northern Virginia Magazine has collaborated with the Fauquier County Chamber of Commerce to sponsor the Annual Old Town Warrenton Spring Festival. Celebrating its 32nd year, the festival will take place Saturday, May 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. along Main St. in Warrenton. Over 250 local artists and craft vendors will be showcased. In addition, live music will be performed on the steps of the Old Courthouse, and visitors will have a variety of delicious festival foods to sample. The event is expected to draw over 30,000 spectators—rain or shine. Come out to enjoy the festivities, which are sure to entertain everyone in the family. There is no admissions fee. 	The 19th Annual Northern Virginia Fine Arts FestivalMay 15-16RestonFor 19 years, the Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE) has produced the Annual Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival, which Northern Virginia Magazine has been honored to sponsor each year since 2006. This year, the event is scheduled for Saturday, May 15, and Sunday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days; and, once again, Northern Virginia Magazine has signed on as a sponsor. Welcoming over 50,000 patrons, the two-day outdoor festival takes over popular Reston Town Center, offering the unique experience of viewing exceptional art from over 220 artists, and the opportunity to meet and chat with creative minds. There is even a Children’s Art Tent that allows children to explore their imaginations by creating mosaics, jewelry and kinetic sculptures. As for the adults, there will be a handful of acts to entertain you as you stroll along the streets, explore the booths and munch on treats. 	The 23rd Annual Taste of Arlington®May 16ArlingtonNorthern Virginia Magazine is excited to announce we have joined the team sponsoring the 23rd Annual Taste of Arlington scheduled for May 16 from noon to 5 p.m.— rain or shine. Over 40 local restaurants will line Wilson Blvd. with their tents to offer patrons the tastiest of treats. Food isn’t the only attraction, though. Fun will be provided for the whole family with live music, face painting and crafts for the kids, and dogs are welcome too! Proceeds will benefit Virginia Hospital Center and the Arlington Community Foundation. 	The 2010 RAMMY Awards and GalaJune 6Washington, D.C.Northern Virginia Magazine is eager to announce our sponsorship of this year’s 28th Annual RAMMY Awards and Gala, presented by the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW). 	Fall for the Book FestivalSeptember 19-24Multiple Locations in the D.C. Metro areaNorthern Virginia Magazine and Specialicious.com are thrilled to sponsor the Fall for the Book Festival, taking place Sunday, September 19, through Friday, September 24. The festival, started in 1999 as a two-day event, brings 150 authors from around the world for readings and discussions at more than 30 venues throughout Northern Virginia, D.C., and Maryland over the course of six days. Each year, the festival brings together people of all ages and backgrounds through their shared love of literature. Not only does it advance children’s education with specially tailored workshops for different education levels, but it builds community and it makes literature fun and engaging by presenting it in active ways, such as through skits and dance. Readers also get the opportunity to meet famous writers, such as Greg Mortenson and Ann Patchett; hear readings of their favorite stories; and get behind-the-scenes information about what goes into writing and publishing treasured works.
