Farm to Fork Loudon
July 26 – August 5, 2012.

With all of the uncertainty surrounding where food comes from and its safety, the farm-to-table movement in America is growing minute by minute. Loudoun County is no stranger to this movement- Farm-to-Fork Loudoun is in its second year of presenting an 11-day culinary celebration of local cuisine. Loudoun’s finest farmers, restaurant chefs and owners, and wineries have come together to present the farm-to-table concept to Northern Virginians with style. All participating chefs and restaurant owners have committed to using at least 70% locally sourced food July 26 through August 5, and restaurant patrons may order from customized Farm-to-Fork Loudoun menus featuring some of the county’s best locally grown and raised produce, beef, lamb, and poultry, complemented by a selection of Loudoun wines, brews and spirits; http://www.farmtoforkloudoun.com.

Alexandria’s Food & Wine Festival
June 23, 2012.

On Saturday, June 23rd, from noon-5:00pm, the Alexandria’s Food and Wine Festival will feature several diverse restaurants in Alexandria and some of Virginia’s wineries. This event will give the opportunity for attendees to give back to the community through local non-profit organizations. Active duty military families will benefit from one free ticket book, and a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Carpenter’s Shelter of Alexandria. Admission to the event is free but attendees must purchase ticket books to sample restaurant and beverages. This anticipated event will transform John Carlyle Square into a festival of live entertainment, children activities and cooking demonstrations. Loudoun Lyme 5K
May 6, 7:30 a.m.-11 a.m.

In 2009, Loudoun County led the Northern Virginia region in reported Lyme disease cases. According to the CDC, the United States has 38,000 new cases of Lyme each year. However, the disease is difficult to diagnose and the actual figure may be 10 times as great. The 2nd Annual Loudoun Lyme 5K/1M Event will drive awareness and raise money to help find a cure for Lyme disease – the number one tick-borne illness in the United States. The Loudoun Lyme 5K/1M Event will also feature children’s activities as well as an information fair to educate the public about Lyme disease, its causes, symptoms and treatments. All net proceeds will benefit The National Capital Lyme Disease Association. Free to attend festivities. / National Conference Center, 18980 Upper Belmont Place, Leesburg, Virginia 20176; http://www.loudounlyme.org.

Hats Off to Our Health!

The Medical Spa at Nova and WD Designs Awareness Jewelry are holding Hats Off to Our Health!, a cancer awareness event benefiting The American Cancer Society Relay For Life® at The Medical Spa at Nova on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 5:30 – 8 p.m. Inspired by Success in the City’s premier fundraising event, Cups Full of Hope, Hats Off to Our Health! will honor the lives of cancer survivors and lost loved ones through an inspirational art exhibit of sun hats designed-by-YOU. The hats will be silent auctioned throughout the evening, serving as a fundraiser for participating Relay For Life teams and other individuals who are interested in raising funds for the fight against cancer. This “open spa” event will also include pampering, shopping, food, wine and more! Interactive spa demos will focus on melanoma awareness and prevention. Carpenter’s Cook-Off
April 29, 2012.

The Carpenter’s Cook-Off is back! On Sunday, April 29th, enjoy an all you can eat tasting event for only $40 for adults and $10 for children under the age of 12 from 12 p.m.-3 p.m. Come watch the area’s best restaurants compete at Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria and cast your vote for your favorites while sampling endless amounts of the delicious food. All proceeds will go to Carpenter’s Shelter, the largest homeless shelter in Northern Virginia, serving over 1,000 men, women and children through six intertwined programs. Taste of Vienna
April 28, 2012.

The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department (VVFD) will host the 1st annual Taste of Vienna Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. The event will showcase the many excellent restaurants that the Vienna area has to offer. The VVFD parking lot will feature 30 Vienna restaurants and live entertainment. The VVFD parking lot will undoubtedly draw a large crowd of area diners. Admission to the event is free and guest will be given the opportunity to purchase restaurant food and beverages. Proceeds from this event will benefit The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department. For over 100 years, VVFD members have been serving the Vienna community. In addition to protecting and preserving the lives and property in and around the Town of Vienna, Vienna volunteers spend countless hours raising money to support and maintain its mission. Lorenzo’s Ride to Provide

Ride to Provide is a fun and challenging event that lets both children, parents and the recreational and avid cyclist raise money for Lorenzo’s ACES Foundation and the Bethesda Cycling Program of Walter Reed and one of its specific programs, Ride 2 Recovery. There are four different distances to ride: 10 mile ride, 20 mile ride, 35 mile ride and 53 mile ride.This annual charity bike event hosted by Washington Redskins, Lorenzo Alexander and Kedric Golston. Lorenzo, Kedric, Redskin teammates – Anthony Armstrong, Rocky McIntosh – and media personalities – Kelli Johnson, Mike Wise, Holden Kushner, Chris Russell and Dave Feldman, will be joining our military heroes as well as hundreds of children and adults on the W&OD Railroad Regional Park Trail for a 10-53 mile scenic bike ride that begins and ends at Reston Town Center; http://www.ridetoprovide.org.

Rock the Runway is a fund and awareness-raiser featuring local teens and fashion vendors, concentrating on healthy living, personal well-being and self-confidence. In keeping with Loudoun Youth’s philosophy, the event will feature youth models and youth artists, as well as youth throughout the planning and execution of the event, giving them an outlet to showcase their talent to the community and the experience to build confident and engaged young adults. The event will include hourly fashion shows featuring local vendors and teens, music performances by local youth Informational booths connecting local community groups to young people, food vendors, raffles, door prizes and giveaways!

  2011 St. Jude Give Thanks Walk by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Join us on Saturday, Nov. 19, as St. Jude supporters from the Woodbridge and Northern Virginia communities join with 80 cities nationwide to come together and participate in the St. Jude Give thanks. Walk. to raise money for the children of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The Walk is being held at Potomac Mills Mall starting at the Food Court. Check-in begins at 6:30 a.m. and the Walk starts at 7:45 a.m. Registration for this family-friendly event is free! Taste of Fall Presented by FACETS

Save the Date! A Taste of Fall with FACETS will be held in the evening of October 22, 2011 – and we’re moving this spectacular event to Fairfax City, at the newly opened Stacy C. Second Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Event at The Medical Spa at Nova

The Medical Spa at Nova and WD Designs Awareness Jewelry reveal the success of the second annual breast cancer awareness event at The Medical Spa at Nova with a significant increase in both attendance and fundraising efforts. Held on Wednesday, Oct. 19, this year’s event saw an increase in funds raised by more than 140% from its inaugural year. Attendance doubled with approximately 100 attendees and the event raised $5,850 for Tigerlily Foundation, an organization dedicated to educating, supporting, and empowering young women – ages 15 – 40 – before, during, and after the diagnosis of breast cancer. “We are thrilled to announce such astonishing growth and success” says Dr. Grace Keenan, CEO and Medical Director of Nova Medical & Urgent Care Center, Inc. “The proceeds from our event will help fund Tigerlily’s special educational and support programs which are designed to improve the overall quality of life for young adult breast cancer survivors. We are grateful that we are able to contribute to such a worthy cause and hope that this event continues to grow in the years to come.” Dr. Keenan and the owners of WD Designs Awareness Jewelry, Cathy Dorman and Wendy Wooley, will formally present a check to Maimah Karmo, the founder and CEO of Tigerlily Foundation, on Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. at The Medical Spa at Nova. The Fourth Annual Redskins Rides Car Show

The Fourth Annual Redskins Rides Car Show features classic and exotic cars. It’s also a great chance to see Redskins players bring out their rides! Competition categories include Classic, Custom, Import, and Special Interest for all exhibitors and Top Redskins Ride for the players. Fans can get their Redskins gear autographed by the players while enjoying food and live music. It’s a great community event for Redskins fans and car enthusiasts alike! Come together for this fun family event that benefits charity! The proceeds from Redskins Rides go to many charities that are assisted by the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and The Easterns Community Care Foundation.
