Style Report: Maxi Dresses & Skirts

Posted by Carten Cordell / Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Hello there, shoppers! While some trends are a bit difficult to pull off for some — mid-calf skirts are certainly not this 5′ 10″  girl’s cup of tea — others are just about universally flattering. One fine example: maxi dresses and skirts.

With the right shoes — high espadrilles for the petite set, strappy flats for taller girls — anyone can look like a star in them. Plus, you just about can’t wear a style that’s more comfortable. Not to mention, they’re oh-so-fun to accessorize! And, with maxi dresses, you don’t even have to worry about coordinating a top and a bottom.

Excited to add a few more of the overachievers to my own closet, I found some maxis that I think may catch your eye as well:

First two that really bring on the romance:

Ruffled Maxi, $69.50 (Victoria's Secret)

Ardisia Maxi Dress, $228 (Anthropologie)

And two that are simple and super-fun to accessorize:

Hive & Honey Maxi, $49 (Piperlime)

Whispering Forest Maxi, $138 (Anthropologie)

And, finally the fun and flirty:

Ella Moss for Piperlime, $169 -- also comes in blue (Piperlime)

In the Abstract Dress, $248 (Anthropologie)

For less expensive winners, Forever 21 and H&M are great places to look, same for South Moon Under — especially during sales. Then again, if you have some cash to spare, check out the to-die-for dresses and skirts at Periwinkle and Cusp.

Happy shopping!
