Destination: Near the corner of Caroline and William Street in downtown Fredericksburg, Cose Belle is nestled in amongst the myriad of retail options. The modern boutique stands out as a small white building on a block filled with red brick and antique stores.
Atmosphere: The boutique seamlessly blends its European inspiration with the rustic nature of downtown Fredericksburg with exposed brick, modern concrete flooring, antique chairs, dim lighting and crimson velvet curtain accents. The store gives off a friendly vibe as Paola Barral, the young and fashionable Italian store owner, greets shoppers with a smile and begins to help customers find the perfect outfit.
Bread and Butter: All of the pieces are picked by Barral on one of her many trips to Europe throughout the year. The store is stocked full of the latest European trends including brightly colored and printed pieces, bringing Fredericksburg unique articles that won’t be easy to come across elsewhere.
Sweet Surprises: Along the shoe rack you’ll find a few pairs of shoes with the same name, and earlier this year Barral introduced a new line of Italian-made shoes that she helps design. “Being Italian I still think the best shoes are made in Italy …the leather is so soft it’s like a glove for your feet,” says Barral about the handcrafted shoes.
Fiercest Fan: The customers of the store range from college students to the Mayor [Mary Katherine Greenlaw] of the town. Cose Belle has such an eclectic arrangement of clothes that almost anyone can find something they adore.
Blows to the Budget: Since the store is made up a variety of designers there is a wide range of prices. Items can cost as low as $30 and as high as $700.–Helen Ray
