There are many things that come to mind when thinking of Thanksgiving, with food and family rightfully at the top of the list. But what about fashion? With endless plates brimming with dinner and dessert, your one requirement may just be “roomy.” Despite the nature of the holiday, it is still possible to be both stylish and comfortable. We reached out to three local fashionistas to show us how to put together appropriate holiday attire from some of the area’s best boutiques.
Julien Garman, It’s Julien
“This Thanksgiving, I’m going for the ultimate cozy look—an oversized burgundy sweater from Take 5 Boutique, my favorite Citizens of Humanity jeans from South Moon Under (soft and stretchy), Via Spiga booties, [a] Denada scarf and statement earrings from my favorite jewelry designer, Sophie Blake. I’ll keep the makeup on the lighter end with a touch of bronzer and this pretty shade by Finding Ferdinand.”

“Thanksgiving is always a production at the Arias household. From morning, until the bird hits the table, it’s all hands on deck to help mom with all the fixings. By the time its said and done, there is only a short window to get ready. I like to keep with my daily routine, simple and chic. A sweater dress, pumps, a classic leather jacket, my favorite Chris Cardi pouch, and my go-to lip color are all I need to set the scene on Turkey Day.”
Maurisa Potts, Spotted MP
“Since this is the day that we nationally give thanks to the creation of elastic waistbands, I start out Thanksgiving day by putting on an outfit that makes sure my elastic is never over-stretched or tapped out. This year once again, I will be running Alexandria’s Annual Turkey Trot 5-mile race. I have taken up running quite a bit in my 40-something age. With warmth just as important as style [on] what is typically a cold race day, I layer up in one of my favorite running brands called Mizuno, which I buy at my favorite local running shop, Pacers in Alexandria. They provide the best warmth out there, and I have run in 10 degree temperatures in this brand and still stayed warm.”

“Freshly showered from the race, I transition to a more comfortable, mom-chic style that allows you to look put together but still enjoy the bounties of the day without having to open your britches at the dinner table—ha! This year, I will be hosting an intimate gathering at my house with all the trimmings which includes two signature dishes: my special baked macaroni and cheese recipe and pumpkin and crab bisque soup. Cooking is a good de-stresser for me. However, the evening wraps up early for me as I head to bed to wake up at 5 a.m. the next day for the steals and deals by Alexandria boutiques for the annual Black Friday Alexandria event. What a perfect way to bookend burning off Thanksgiving calories than shopping my local boutiques.”
