S.W.A.G’s All Access Fashion Wrap-Up
Posted by The Editorial Desk / Monday, October 3rd, 2011
All Access: Fashion was a three-day event that was on Sept. 22-24 at Tysons Galleria. It benefited the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic. Sept. 22 was a roundtable discussion about contemporary luxury retail business and the impact technology has on the industry. On Sept. 23, Saks Fifth Avenue hosted a silent auction for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, red carpet runway presentation of the Fall 2011 Designer Evening wear Collections and a cocktail hour. Sept. 23 was a day full of runway shows, in-store presentations and more fundraising for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Now to the good stuff.
In case you didn’t make to the fashion shows, here’s the wrap-up of the latest trends from the Fall collections.

As you can tell, bold colors is one of Fall's new trends. Photo courtesy of allaccessfashion.com.

Sequins were another big Fall trend, especially in evening wear. Photo courtesy of Vithaya Phongsavan.

Furs, like this outfit from Elie Tahari, were another huge Fall trend at All Access Fashion. Photo courtesy of www.elietahari.com.
So we’ve got bold colors, sequins and fur. Update your closets!

Expect the runways to be rocking at this weekend's All Access Fashion event at Tysons Galleria! (PHOTO: allaccessfashion.com)
Hello there, shoppers! If you know NoVA, you know it knows how to do shopping events! This weekend is certainly no exception.
This weekend-long style spectacular begins tonight with an invitation-only fashion panel event. Then tomorrow and Saturday, there will be runway shows from many of our favorite Galleria shops and fabulous in-store experiences like designer appearances, cooking demonstrations and more (with a portion of sales in participating stores going to Make-A-Wish). And Sunday brings branded lounges and more haute happenings.
Basically show up at the Galleria just about any time this weekend, and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to NYC. For the latest, keep your eye on Twitter.
Vintage Fashion Week Fun at Gossip on 23rd:
Get ready to make your Friday night (7-9 p.m.) fabulous, celebrating vintage fashion at its finest. As we told you a few weeks ago, Goodwill of Washington, Spicy Candy DC and Gossip on 23rd have teamed up for “Mad Men”-inspired fete to show off fashions from the “House of Goodwill”! A silent auction will benefit the charity, light refreshments will be served, a favorite local DJ will be spinning, and the first 20 guests will receive a Vintage Fashion Lookbook courtesy of Spicy Candy DC. Kat and Carlis previewed a bit of the book this week … amazing!
Scavenger hunts are just about always fun. Throw shopping in the mix, plus a chance to win one of 30 $100 gift cards or a $3,000 shopping spree, and free gifts just for browsing … sweet! That’s what’s in store for you in the Old Town Boutique District this weekend. See their website to download the map and passport, and win, win, win!
Happy shopping!

PS. If you find some time to be in the District, say hi to the Susan G. Komen 3-day walkers!

Don't miss the annual OTBD Scavenger Hunt Sept. 23-25, which is giving away more than $6,000 in gift cards and other prizes!
Hello there, shoppers! While Target’s website has been down most of the morning — I expected they wouldn’t be able to handle all of us Missoni fans — and that break for lunch shopping can’t come soon enough, here’s a little news to perk you back up.
It’s almost time for the annual Old Town Boutique District Scavenger Hunt, slated for next weekend, Sept. 23-25. If you’ve never participated in the OTBD Scavenger Hunt before, it’s so fun and easy.
Just visit the OTBD site to download the passport and map, and then get the passport stamped at all 30 OTBD boutiques between Sept. 23-25. In doing so, you’ll be entered to win one of 30 $100 gift cards and a $3,000 shopping spree! Plus, you’ll receive a special gift at each store you visit during the event while they last — no purchase necessary!
Also, new this year: Be on top of the stores’ social media sites, including the Facebook page for OTBD, for more opportunities to snag swag.
Happy shopping!
–Natalie Kaar
PS. You can bet I’d be there and at All Access Fashion at Tysons Galleria, but I’ve signed up for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure in honor of one of my dearest friends, and will be tied up with 60 miles of walking. I’m on the homestretch to my individual fundraising goal, and our team has raised over $7,000–wish us luck! And, breast cancer, get ready to get kicked to the curb!
Tim Gunn in the Flesh and a Few Fab Sales
Posted by The Editorial Desk / Monday, September 21st, 2009
Good morning, shoppers! Here’s hoping you all had a wonderful weekend and aren’t too tired from watching the Emmys last night. Any faves from the red carpet? Blake Lively sure rocked a lively number didn’t she?
I also hope that a lot of you were able to check out the fabulous fashions and Hollywood icons at Tysons Galleria this weekend, too. Though my hubby and I were unable to make it to the 1 p.m. All Access: Fashion show hosted by Tim Gunn on Saturday, fortunately we were able to catch a glimpse of the style guru soon after, taking photos with fans. Here’s one of the pics my hubby snapped through the glass:

Gunn looked amazing, even more dapper than he looks on TV! For those of you who shopped and waited in a long line to stand and smile with the star, do you agree?
For those of you who totally missed the event, here’s a photo of the fashion show area, as seats were filling up for the Basler show:

And, so that your Monday is a little more bearable, how about a few fine sales?
Through Wednesday, Sept. 23, piperlime.com is offering 20 percent off shoes and handbags with the code “TREAT”.
Meanwhile, arguably the best site for photo books (in my opinion at least), mypublisher.com, is hosting their last sale of the year, offering 40 percent off orders of $100 or more and 20 percent off $50 or more with the code “HOLSAVE40″.
And, finally, Saks.com is currently offering a free pair of black opaque tights from Theory with any Theory women’s apparel purchase and either the code “THEORYXS” for petite/small, or “THEORYML” for medum/large.
Happy shopping!

Good morning, shoppers! Here’s hoping you’re all rested up and ready to continue this fantastic week filled to the brim with fashion events at their finest. Should you be tired from last night’s District Sample Sale, may I suggest another latte? After all, tonight is not only the kick-off for Tysons Galleria’s sure-to-be-glorious All Access: Fashion event but Old Town Alexandria’s Hysteria is celebrating 10 marvelous years; and you’re invited!
Stop by the store (125 S. Fairfax St.) between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., for an evening filled with your favorite things: of course, Hysteria’s incredible new fall merchandise from your favorite designers, including Tory Burch and Vince, which will all be marked 20 percent off; cupcakes; champagne; and a primo party-ending prize drawing that could land you a free Isabella Fiore bag! *You only have to stop by to enter; you don’t have to be present at the drawing to win.
Have fun, and good luck!
Ps. Don’t forget to tell us about your fall fashion likes and dislikes by commenting on yesterday’s post before 4 p.m. tomorrow. There is still room for two more SWAG readers and their guests to attend both “Bright Star” VIP events next Monday evening!
HUGE Back-to-Home Sale at Valerianne
Posted by The Editorial Desk / Monday, September 14th, 2009

A peek inside Vienna's Valerianne (111 Church St. NW, Vienna--upstairs)
Good morning, shoppers! Here’s hoping you all had a fabulous weekend. Should you be a bit down due to today being Monday, even though it’s absolutely gorgeous outside, keep that chin up. This week is sure to be an outstanding one for area shoppers! I mean, how often do you get to see fashion icons like Tim Gunn in the flesh?!
Yes, don’t forget Tysons Galleria’s All Access Fashion event starts Thursday, and if you spend $100 or more at participating Galleria retailers now (well, from this past Saturday, actually) through this Saturday, you’ll receive an exclusive limited-edition holiday gift and be professionally photographed with Project Runway’s main man!
Yet, you don’t have to wait four long days for some serious shopping fun, folks. Just one day away is a mega-sale at Vienna’s magnificent Valerianne!
Tomorrow, Sept. 15, through the end of the month, the boutique is offering savings up to 60 percent off almost all of its fabulous linens, gifts and home accessories (excluding only Kristine Martin Jewelry Designs and Santa Maria Novella products).
I’ll tell you what, ever since the lovely ladies of Valerianne sent me the scoop on the sale last Friday, my dreams have been filled with gorgeous pillows, dreamy scents, super-chic makeup bags, unbelievably soft bedding and towels, and tableware that could make anything a home chef cooks up look good! Trust me, you’ll find those items and so much more at the store.
To scoop up the remarkable limited-time savings for yourself, stop by Valerianne between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, Saturday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., or Sunday, between noon and 5 p.m.
Happy shopping!

Tim Gunn, to appear at Tysons Galleria on Saturday, Sept. 19 for "All Access: Fashion" (papermag.com)
Good morning, shoppers! Don’t you just love Fridays?! Me too, especially when I have a whole bunch of juicy shopping news to share! Then again, it can be hard to know where to begin in writing this blog.
I suppose I’ll start with some of today’s simply irresistible sales:
Is it time to shake up your beauty routine or stock up on all of your favorite beauty products? Skinstore.com is offering 20 percent off sitewide through Sept. 1 with the code “20AUG” at checkout.
Dying to buy a new fall trench or some fall dresses? Lord & Taylor is offering the opportunity to save big-time on such purchases during the store’s BIG sale. With the promo code “BIG” or this savings pass, you’ll save 15 percent on regular and sale items, 25 percent on clearance merchandise.
Looking for fabulous freebies? The Georgetown Cusp is offering a free gift with every Alice & Olivia purchase tomorrow.
Thinking your handbag collection has lost some of its luster? Today is the last day to save up to 75 percent on Kate Spade handbags and more, plus score free shipping, during the Sample Sale.
Been missing Bath & Body Works’ aromatherapy body mist? The store has brought back the much-loved product in five of its most popular scents — Lavender Chamomile, Lavender Vanilla, Jasmine Vanilla, Eucalyptus Spearmint and Black Currant Vanilla. Another reason to visit B&BW now: the Stock Up and Save event.
Does no store bring a smile to your face like Bloomies? During the Black & White Sale, going on now through Sunday, you can save up to 40 percent off and help the store benefit amfAR.
Other need-to-know-now shopping news:
Sept. 17-19, Tysons Galleria will host “All Access: Fashion,” a sure-to-be-fabulous charity event benefiting YouthAIDS, to include runway shows featuring luxury apparel from Galleria stores, in-store trunk shows, wine tastings, makeovers and much more, including special appearances by fashion icons including Tim Gunn from Project Runway and Frederique Van der Wal! I cannot thank the awesome Melanie Amoss of Salon Bleu, who will be doing hair and makeup at the event, enough for sharing the scoop.
Speaking of Salon Bleu, you’re going to want to clear your calendar now on October 4 and call the salon for an appointment: 202-333-BLEU (2538). Why? That’s when the remarkable salon will host “Cuts for the Cure,” a very special event to raise funds for the Maryland affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which directly benefits area residents. The charity, very close to the hearts of the Salon Bleu staff, will receive 100 percent of proceeds from the cut-a-thon! Don’t want to get your hair cut? You can still help the cause. Schedule a blow-dry and styling or make a donation.
And, finally, the Cash for Clunkers program may have been scrapped for now, but according to the A Girl Must Shop blog and Business Week, come fall we’ll welcome Cash for Refrigerators, a program to encourage shoppers to purchase high-efficiency models, which is already receiving a lot of criticism.
