Bloomers-Shirlington Celebrating Big-Time This Month

Posted by Natalie Kaar / Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

Hello there, shoppers!

A few months back, we spread the sweet news about Bloomers expanding to Shirlington. And now the new years brings even more reason to celebrate the burgeoning underwear and loungewear boutique. Throughout January, Bloomers is offering all kinds of big bennies to shoppers — some at both stores, in Shirlington and Alexandria.

First, what’s a celebration of a grand opening without a party? Exactly. The soiree portion of the fun will be Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Shirlington store from 10 a.m.-8 p.m., featuring free refreshments, a 20-percent discount on all in-store merchandise, a raffle to win a three-month membership in the Panty of the Month Club (worth $60), and a free gift with purchase (while supplies last).

And now’s the time to show the store some social media love. Each time you “check in” at either Bloomers location on Facebook this month, you’ll score 10 percent off your entire purchase. The same deal applies when you do a Bloomers “check in” on Foursquare. Plus, when you “like” Bloomers on Facebook, you’ll be entered to win over $100 in Bloomers merch.

Happy shopping — and celebrating!

Bloomers Blooms Again

(Bloomers)

Hello there, shoppers! Sweet expansion news in the NoVA shopping scene! Bloomers, Old Town Alexandria’s stellar destination for underwear and other undergarments women actually enjoy wearing — not to mention super-stylish loungewear — has opened up a second shop in Shirlington! You’ll find Bloomers at The Village at Shirlington, 4150 Campbell Ave.

The new store is open seven days per week, Sundays from noon-5 p.m., other days from 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Shop the same great brands you’re used to in the OTBD, like Eberjey, Hanky Panky, LeMystere, Hue, On Gossamer, Spanx and more!

As for whether an expansion is in the works for Bloomer co-founders Angela Sitilides’ and Kim Putens’ other popular store, Bellacara, Putens tells me there are no plans to expand the beauty mecca. We can keep on wishing, I guess.

Happy shopping!

Good morning, shoppers! I know it’s only Tuesday, but, hey, I figure it’s never too late to start planning a little Thursday night fun, so here are three enticing events you may want to include in your plans:

First, if you’re worried about looking your best for all of the holiday parties coming up and have been bouncing around the idea of getting Botox, you might want to plan a little trip out to Ashburn. The Medical Spa at Nova is hosting Botox Happy Hours, offering Botox for just $11 per unit (average female requires 30 to 40; average male, 50 to 60), from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. each Thursday this month. The spa is also promising each Happy Hour client a $50 certificate to be used on any cosmetic filler in the future.

To schedule an appointment, call 703-554-1130.

Another exciting after-work option for your Thursday: Bloomers’ First Anniversary party in Alexandria. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the fabulous store — brimming with stylish, comfortable sleepwear and lounge wear — is inviting shoppers to celebrate by taking advantage of a 10-percent discount on all purchases. Shoppers who spend over $100 will also receive a free gift.

And, finally, not too far away, Gossip on 23rd in Crystal City, one of the area’s best spots to snag a super-stylish bargain, is celebrating two wonderful years at Tortoise & Hare, across the street, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Shoppers are invited to attend and enjoy appetizers, cocktail tastings, karaoke, a fashion show, chair massages and reflexology, and great shopping (of course)! Plus, there will be fun contests like Best-dressed Man and Best-dressed Woman, and anyone who brings a donation of clothing or canned goods will be entered into a drawing to win gift certificates to both Tortoise & Hare and Gossip.

Ps. It’s Kate Spade Sample Sale time!

BB Dakota Indigo Blue Marsh Jacket, $70 (chickdowntown.com)

BB Dakota Indigo Blue Marsh Jacket, $70 (chickdowntown.com)

Good morning, shoppers. In an effort to help you have a very happy Hump Day, here’s a little rundown of all of the retail news you need to know now.

We’ll start with sales …

Through 11:59 p.m. EST tonight, you can save 35 percent site-wide at chickdowntown.com with the code “FALL35″ — the all-together awesome site’s biggest sale of the season.

Big-time savings are just waiting to be snagged at Lord & Taylor, too, during the store’s Friends & Family Sale, going on now through Sunday, Oct. 25. Use the code “FRIENDS” to save 25 percent off almost everything online and this coupon to receive the 25 percent savings in stores.

Another store in on the sweet sale action: Urban Outfitters. To take advantage of the store’s Private Sale online, featuring 10 percent off, use the code “BFF” at checkout.

You can also grab beautiful bargains at Macy’s, that is on fashions for the fellas. The store is currently hosting a Men’s Wardrobe Sale, which allows shoppers to save up 25 to 50 percent off plus an extra 20 percent discount on regular, sale and clearance-priced men’s suits, suit separates, sweaters, blazers, sport coats, pants, topcoats, rain wear, coats, dress shirts and ties. There is also an extra 15 percent discount on all men’s shoes. Available in stores and online.

And tomorrow it will also be time to snag serious savings at Calvinklein.com. During the site’s Friends & Family Sale, Oct. 22 through Oct. 25, save 30 percent off absolutely everything with the code “FF1009″.

There is also some smokin’ new inventory to scope out soon. A few examples:

Well, unless you’ve been living in a bubble, you already know that Apple unveiled a new iMac yesterday that is nothing short of extraordinary. Yup, they just keep getting better and better.

Looking for fierce fashions instead of or in addition to beautiful technology buys? Hysteria in Alexandria now carries super-cool frocks from Skunkfunk. (Speaking of Hysteria, help them celebrate their new neighbor, The Shoe Hive, now bigger and better than ever, by buying some shoes there tomorrow. When you bring in a Shoe Hive receipt to Hysteria, Hysteria will give you a 15 percent coupon which you may use on any purchase at Hysteria through Dec. 24.)

Given the cooler temps ahead of us in the coming months, I also suggest checking out the new inventory at Alexandria’s Bloomers, and not just the store’s super comfortable and stylish lounge and sleep wear but also its new Commando hosiery.

And, finally, shopping is about to get better in Arlington …

Nordstrom Rack is coming to Pentagon Centre next fall!

Maria Small Triple Zip Satchel, available in a variety of colors (colehaan.com)

Maria Small Triple Zip Satchel, available in a variety of colors (colehaan.com)

Good morning, shoppers! Here’s hoping you all had a wonderful weekend. Judging from the crowds at Fair Oaks Mall and Dick’s Sporting Goods yesterday, a lot of you were shopping. It’s hard to resist those fall fashions, isn’t it, even if it means only staring at them and drooling? Well, stay tuned as you haven’t experienced the end of your ogling.

Just a few of the places with spankin’ new standout inventory already in stock or soon to be added: Bloomers in Old Town Alexandria (924 King St.), Cole Haan in Tysons Galleria and Target in Sterling.

At Bloomers, known for their stylish and comfortable selection of sleepwear, loungewear and underwear, recent inventory additions include flirty PJs and chemises from Fleur’t as well as an assortment of must-have fall leggings, tights and other legwear from Hue.

As for Cole Haan, on Sept. 10 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Tysons store will host a launch party to celebrate the arrival of Maria Sharapova by Cole Haan, a fabulous new collection of footwear and handbags designed in collaboration with the fashionable tennis star. The collection’s fun, day-to-night footwear ranges from $138 to $328; handbags from $248 to $428. At the Tysons launch party, you will be able to enter to win a Maria Sharapova by Cole Haan handbag and will receive 20 percent off purchases made at the party. Flash your college I.D., and you’ll score an additional 10 percent discount. Of course, what would a party be without music and food? Expect both along with cocktails, gift bags and more. For more information, call 703-506-2115. For a little video preview of the line and to hear Sharapova’s take on it, click here.

And, as for Target, the next designer line you’re going to want to get in line for is Anna Sui for Target. What a no-brainer! First of all, the apparel was designed by Anna Sui. Second, her inspiration for the collection came in the form of one of our favorite guilty pleasures, “Gossip Girl”! Here’s a preview to tide you over until the collection hits the Sterling store and Target.com on Sept. 13.
