The girls are back! The highly anticipated sequel premieres this Thursday the 27th!

The girls are back! The highly anticipated sequel premieres this Thursday, the 27th!

Good afternoon, shoppers! Don’t let this rainy Monday weather dampen your spirits, because this week New York City’s most beloved girlfriends are finally back on the big screen. Sex and the City 2 (SATC2) will premiere this Thursday, May 27, and in honor of the premiere, all sorts of events and deals will be held throughout the week. Here’s a taste of just a few of the events that are sure to carrie you and your girlfriends away.

Tuesday, May 25, contemporary boutique Urban Chic (always worth the drive from NoVA) is hosting Chic in the City. Stop by any of the store’s four locations (Harbor East, Annapolis Town Centre, Bethesda Row and Georgetown) from 6 to 8 p.m., to enjoy cocktails, raffle prizes and 15 percent savings on new merchandise. Make sure you come dressed-to-impress with your best SATC outfit, too, because the shopper with the best outfit will win two tickets to a SATC 2 showing on May 27!

Don’t you just wish you had the outfits and accessories Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte sashay around in? You Can! Dogeared, a California-based jewelry company is selling their necklace collection inspired by the characters of Sex and the City for prices ranging from $55 to $200. The collection is available online at hbo.com as well as dogeared.com. Also, you can snag the same white Halston Heritage dress SJP has been rocking in the promos; chickdowntown.com has it!

And, finally, don’t forget about the Sex and the City premiere beauty event at W Salon, in Burke, that we mentioned a few weeks ago. The salon will be shutting down on May 27 to give fans new hair styles and cuts while watching SATC episodes, sipping cosmopolitans, and eating appetizers. If you’re interested in going, call 703-250-0800.

Phew! This week is going to be a busy one, so make sure to pencil in these glamorous events and sales for you and your girlfriends. I know I will, so maybe I’ll see you there!

Halston Signature Trench (chickdowntown.com)

Hi there, shoppers! So, anyone else tired after staying up too late to catch the nail-biting end of March Madness? Well, thankfully, the world of fashion and all-things-fun isn’t about to let you drift off at your desk.

First of all, chickdowntown.com is back! The designer apparel gem is under new ownership and offering 25 percent off purchases of $150 or more with the code “NEW25″ to celebrate! I’m loving some of the dresses. How about you?

Speaking of fabulous promotions, if you are or know a young guy or girl who loves soccer and will be between the ages of 13 and 16 on May 1, you won’t believe the latest promotion from Adidas. The company will grant one lucky teen the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend four days in South Africa at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and carry the FIFA fair play flag! Enter the contest in stores before the end of the month. No purchase is necessary in order to win.

Also exciting: Tomorrow from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tysons Corner Center will be hosting a very special Girls Night Out in Fashion Court — featuring a fashion show full of stunning spring and summer looks, complimentary mocktails and desserts plus SWAG from Tysons retailers! Guests will also be offered complimentary mini-makeovers, polish changes, threading and more. It’s just $10 to enter; all proceeds benefit Loudoun Interfaith.

Even more great news: Nicole Richie’s Winter Kate line is now available at National Jean Company (only online for the time being), and a major mid-season sale is going on now at Karen Millen (at Tysons Galleria and the designer’s Web site).

Have fun!

Abaete Ella Dress, originally $473, now $283.80 before 50-percent-off code "Friend50" (chickdowntown.com)

Good morning, shoppers! Thank goodness it’s almost Friday, right?! I don’t know about you, but I’ve been so busy that even my dreams are full of multitasking. Should you have problems getting a full night’s rest, too, and find yourself with lots of gifts to buy next week, perhaps you should make better use of your usual bedtime and shop. After all, the folks at Macy’s are promising to leave a light on for you, at least in Tysons. The Macy’s in Tysons Corner Center is one of 12 select Macy’s stores that will be open for business around the clock from next Monday, Dec. 21, at 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

Prefer to not leave your shopping until next week? Here are a few offers to know about today:

First, Chickdowntown.com, I’m very sad to report, is having financial problems right now, which are explained in this blog post from the site’s owner. I, for one, am praying that the site gets a bailout. At any rate, if you’re looking for amazing deals on designer duds, you’ll certainly find them at chickdowntown.com right now; plus, you can save an additional 50 percent off with the code “Friend50″ — just note that everything is final sale, meaning absolutely no returns.

Another sale to check out is the cashmere sale at neimanmarcus.com, featuring up to 65-percent savings. The code “HURRY” will also score you free shipping and gift wrap.

If sweaters are what you’re after, you should also check out the jcrew.com sweater sale, featuring 20-percent savings, and calvinklein.com, for discounts up to 50 percent.

You’ll also find tons of free shipping offers out there today. A few examples:

Truereligionbrandjeans.com: free two-day shipping through next Monday, Dec. 21

Ralphlauren.com: Free shipping through Sunday, Dec. 20, with the code “RLSHIP9″

Cusp.com: Free shipping, today only, with the code “FESTIVE”

Piperlime.com: Free standard shipping, today only

Potterybarnkids.com: Free shipping, today only, excluding furniture shipping

And, finally, from one serious shopper to another, below are some simple tips on saving every day, things that I’ve found most helpful, perhaps you have to. Feel free to share additional tips in the comment section.

1.) If you haven’t received a special offer via e-mail from your favorite store for a while, poke around on the site and add stuff to your shopping cart. A lot of Web sites use software that tracks this activity and then send e-mails out saying something like, “We’ve noticed you still have a few items in your shopping cart at our store. Here’s a 15- percent discount to save on them the next time you visit.”

2.) Click through on special offer e-mails from your favorite stores even if you don’t plan on purchasing something right away. Companies also often send out e-mails to say something like, “We noticed you visited our site recently, but didn’t decide on an item. Perhaps this 20-percent discount code will help make the decision easier for you.”

3.) If you don’t like filling up your inbox with shopping deals, keep reading blogs like S.W.A.G. I also suggest following your favorite stores or brands on Twitter and becoming a fan of them on Facebook. Often, this is where they first post sale news, while the selection is still good.

4.) Sign up for rebate sites like Ebates or Lucky Rewards, and use the sites each time you shop online. You’d be amazed at how quickly the rebates can add up.

5.) Always search for promo codes online.

6.) To make finding a specific item super-simple, visit Web sites like Shopstyle or TheFind.

7.) Make sample sale sites like Billion Dollar Babes, Editor’s Closet, Ideeli, Gilt Groupe and Rue La La your best friends.

8.) When shopping in stores and you realize you forgot your shopping pass at home, just tell the cashier that. I’ve never had a cashier refuse to scan the one by the register. It never hurts to ask.

Ps. Don’t forget about all of the shopping deals and other delights to be had locally tonight!

A Cornucopia of Cool Shopping Opportunities

BB Dakota Indigo Blue Marsh Jacket, $70 (chickdowntown.com)

BB Dakota Indigo Blue Marsh Jacket, $70 (chickdowntown.com)

Good morning, shoppers. In an effort to help you have a very happy Hump Day, here’s a little rundown of all of the retail news you need to know now.

We’ll start with sales …

Through 11:59 p.m. EST tonight, you can save 35 percent site-wide at chickdowntown.com with the code “FALL35″ — the all-together awesome site’s biggest sale of the season.

Big-time savings are just waiting to be snagged at Lord & Taylor, too, during the store’s Friends & Family Sale, going on now through Sunday, Oct. 25. Use the code “FRIENDS” to save 25 percent off almost everything online and this coupon to receive the 25 percent savings in stores.

Another store in on the sweet sale action: Urban Outfitters. To take advantage of the store’s Private Sale online, featuring 10 percent off, use the code “BFF” at checkout.

You can also grab beautiful bargains at Macy’s, that is on fashions for the fellas. The store is currently hosting a Men’s Wardrobe Sale, which allows shoppers to save up 25 to 50 percent off plus an extra 20 percent discount on regular, sale and clearance-priced men’s suits, suit separates, sweaters, blazers, sport coats, pants, topcoats, rain wear, coats, dress shirts and ties. There is also an extra 15 percent discount on all men’s shoes. Available in stores and online.

And tomorrow it will also be time to snag serious savings at Calvinklein.com. During the site’s Friends & Family Sale, Oct. 22 through Oct. 25, save 30 percent off absolutely everything with the code “FF1009″.

There is also some smokin’ new inventory to scope out soon. A few examples:

Well, unless you’ve been living in a bubble, you already know that Apple unveiled a new iMac yesterday that is nothing short of extraordinary. Yup, they just keep getting better and better.

Looking for fierce fashions instead of or in addition to beautiful technology buys? Hysteria in Alexandria now carries super-cool frocks from Skunkfunk. (Speaking of Hysteria, help them celebrate their new neighbor, The Shoe Hive, now bigger and better than ever, by buying some shoes there tomorrow. When you bring in a Shoe Hive receipt to Hysteria, Hysteria will give you a 15 percent coupon which you may use on any purchase at Hysteria through Dec. 24.)

Given the cooler temps ahead of us in the coming months, I also suggest checking out the new inventory at Alexandria’s Bloomers, and not just the store’s super comfortable and stylish lounge and sleep wear but also its new Commando hosiery.

And, finally, shopping is about to get better in Arlington …

Nordstrom Rack is coming to Pentagon Centre next fall!

More Fabulous Sales and a New Furniture Line to Love

Julian Chair, available at slobproof.com (Slobproof! with Crypton)

Julian Chair, available at slobproof.com (Slobproof! with Crypton)

Good morning, shoppers! Here’s hoping you’re not too tired from shopping at Shecky’s — can’t wait to get there tonight — because there are lots of other exciting shopping experiences awaiting you.

First of all, here are some wonderful web sales I bet you’re going to want to scoop up today:

–At potterybarnkids.com, 30 to 75 percent savings on select items site-wide

–At katespade.com, an additional 25 percent discount on sale items

–At skinstore.com, 20 percent off everything with the code “OCT20″

–At chickdowntown.com, 35 percent savings site-wide with the code “DESSERT35″ (in honor of National Dessert Day)

–At francescascollections.com, a 30 percent discount on jewelry with an apparel purchase

Also, did you get the memo that Gilt Groupe is expanding again? This time the fabulous sample sale group is launching a site for men, GiltMen, on Oct. 19. Not only is that exciting for the fellas, but we won’t have to share our Gilt with them — gotta love undivided attention. Plus, it will soon be super-easy to shop among Gilt Groupe’s various sites, including GiltFuse, with one shopping cart.

And, if that isn’t enough to excite you, perhaps this is: Nationally-recognized local designer Debbie Wiener, whose work has been featured in The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times and Good Housekeeping, has just launched a new furniture line that is both stylish and super-durable! The new Slobproof! with Crypton line, encompassing a wide range of designs from classic to mod and over 500 fabric options, is made for people who want attractive furniture but also don’t want to have to worry about spills when sitting on it and sipping some Cabernet, or wear and tear from kids being kids or pets being pets.

Also to love about the line: It’s quite affordable with the stain-proof chairs starting at $499 and the sofas at $999, and all of the pieces — featuring environmentally sensitive materials like FSC-certified hardwood frames — are fabricated in the U.S., utilizing the quality construction techniques Wiener learned from her dad. In other words, Slobproof! with Crypton is for those who want beautiful, built-to-last furniture but aren’t willing to fork out over $10,000 for an heirloom-quality sofa.

Items from the exciting new line may be purchased at slobproof.com or by calling Pugrant Associates at 202-863-0050. And if you’re like me and insist on sitting on a sofa or chair before plunking down dough for it, no worries, the collection is featured in Wiener’s sports lounge at The Washington Design Center’s Fall Design House through Dec. 12.
