Fashionably Paying Homage to the King of Pop

Good morning, shoppers. If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you know I’m a huge fan of locally-based crookedmonkey.com, which designs and sells super-soft, super-funny T-shirts, which are also found in major department stores and hip L.A. shopping haunts like Kitson — not to mention often spied on celebs like Ryan Seacrest. If you know me personally, you also know that I’m an even bigger fan of Michael Jackson.
Well, given that today is MJ’s public funeral and most of us weren’t lucky enough to secure tickets to it, I couldn’t be happier to let you all know about Crooked Monkey’s new shirts designed in honor of the music legend who, according to Jessica Kades, has long served as an inspiration to the company.
“Michael has always had a big impact on our company. When we launched our website in 2007, we wanted to bring our logo, the Crooked Monkey, to life. We produced a flash video of our monkey dancing the moonwalk and working the robot to the tune of ‘Billie Jean’ … it’s our favorite part of the site.”
Here are the MJ designs for girls, and here are the ones for the fellas. I think the one below is my fave:
Fellow fans: How about you? Which T do you plan on buying?
Seacrest’s Much Buzzed About Shirt

Hi there, shoppers! To help you break up your workday, I thought I’d turn your thoughts to American Idol‘s stylish host, the one and only Ryan Seacrest, for a sec. Love him or hate him, you’ve got to give it to the guy; he works about 23 hours a day — or at least it seems so — and it seems he’s a fan of local comical t-shirt company Crooked Monkey.
I was actually listening to his show on Hot 99.5 yesterday afternoon — on my way back from dropping off piles o’ magazines at the Dulles Expo Center for this weekend’s Women’s Show of Northern Virginia — when I heard him talking about it on air. He (or his coworker) even posted a photo of the shirt on his Twitter page as well as on ryanseacreast.com! It looks like you better place those orders for super-soft, super-funny Ts now — before the company can’t keep up with demand.
Speaking of Idol fashion, what did you think of Allison’s punk look this week? Think it was appropriate for a No Doubt song or ridiculous any way you look at it?

Happy Friday, shoppers! Yes, it’s Friday! Woot woot! Here’s hoping fun times lie ahead for all of you this weekend. Personally, I can’t wait to see my fam in Pa. and check out the red carpet coverage of the Oscar’s! Whatever your plans entail, don’t forget to carve out a few minutes to try your chances at winning free VIP tickets to Northern VA Fashion Week!
For those of you wishing to add even more merriness to the mix — who could resist? — be sure to check out the super-fun t-shirt designs of locally based Crooked Monkey, a company that began as a vision of two high school buddies at the University of Maryland back in May 2005 and scored its first department store contract, with Lord & Taylor, less than a year later. Today their funny Ts are not only sold in Lord & Taylor but also in Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters, celeb favorites Fred Segal and Kitson, and over 550 other popular retailers throughout the world. Take a quick look around Crooked Monkey’s website and you’ll begin to know why. Touch one of their ultra-soft shirts, and you’ll be sold!
For Valentine’s Day, I couldn’t resist buying the pictured T-shirt for my favorite tech guru — thanks to cityshopgirl.com for the tip. What a hit! My sweetie is a sucker for ultra-soft shirts, and he got a kick out of the multicolored banana Runts (get it?) that were included, along with the handwritten gift note, in the package.
After you get a chance to scope out the site, let me know which clever shirts catch your eye!
Once again, Happy Friday!
