Just because we’re impatiently waiting for spring doesn’t mean our time should go to waste, which is why we’re starting our spring shopping early. And where better to start then with totes? Introducing a colorful tote into your wardrobe is the perfect way to start dressing for the spring. But, be careful when you’re choosing a color. Pastels and florals are fun and flirty, as long as you don’t get too bright. We wouldn’t want to have to dust off our sunglasses just to take a look at your purse after all.
Paring a spring tote with your end-of-winter outfits allows you to incorporate color without looking too eager. We picked out five season-appropriate totes that are ready to brighten your day and your wardrobe. You can even swap your boots for the flats you’ve been dying to get back into, as long as the weather permits it.

Everything that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen touch turns to gold, so it’s no surprise that their recently launched debut perfumes with contemporary clothing line Elizabeth and James has been receiving major buzz. The complementary pair, Nirvana BLACK and WHITE, aims to reflect the designers’ idea of ‘intimacy and individuality.’ After sniffing a sample of both fragrances, I was immediately drawn to Nirvana BLACK. While both have floral elements, Nirvana BLACK is a unique mix of violet, sandalwood and vanilla. The sandalwood, which was selected after testing out over 200 different kinds, gives the fragrance such a dark and musky feel that it could almost be worn as a unisex scent. The fragrance is so complex and sophisticated that I can see it reaching cult-classic status like the slightly comparable ‘Flowerbomb’ by Viktor and Rolf. If this scent is not your speed, Nirvana WHITE is a lighter alternative to its musky counterpart. Both scents can be found exclusively in-store and online at Sephora. -Angela Bobo

On a day when most hearts melt, Nordstrom is introducing it’s fourth Pop-in @ Nordstrom, Heartbreakers Club. The collection can be found in eight lucky Nordstrom locations, including Tysons Corner Center. The shop structure, designed by Rafael de Cárdenas, is inspired by men with heartbreakingly good style. “We wanted to create an environment that was enticing yet assertive, reflecting the distinct style of merchandise within,” said de Cárdenas. And that merchandise features pieces by Patrik Ervell, Mark McNairy and many more. Any last minute Valentine’s Day shoppers can find quick gifts like a Kitsuné Moss Candle, Porter, Yoshida & Co ‘Unite’ Briefcase or Jaybird ‘BlueBuds X’ Secure Fit Wireless Earbuds.

When I walked into Herban Lifestyle’s new location in Fairfax, I was greeted by the delicate scents of coconut, lavender and everything else that one would associate with handmade soaps. The store was originally an Etsy page that creator and soap connoisseur Mary Kearns ran out of her home. Now, antique bookcases, wooden tables and wire baskets hold Herban Lifestyle’s organic soaps, perfumes and lotions. The sustainable shop is just around the corner from the Mosaic District in a simple loft, accented with folded paper wall décor and mini chalkboard signs. Products like herbal shampoo bars and men’s shaving oils are both innovative and long-lasting. By not adding extra water to her products, Kearns estimates a single shampoo bar lasts 40 to 60 washes. All of her products are made and packaged in-store and can still be purchased through her Etsy page. But if you’re looking for something extra special, visit the Fairfax shop for the designer of the month, which previously featured Vita Pulita’s soaps that look so good you would be tempted to take a bite.

I believe that I am not fully dressed in the mornings without a quick spritz of perfume. In fact, I enjoy a good fragrance so much that I have given myself a personal rule of never wearing the same scent twice. There are so many options out there why limit myself to one ‘signature scent.’
Because of this, I sniff and spray almost any perfume I can get my hands on, which led me to test Tocca ‘Brigitte’ ($68/ 1.7 oz) during a random trip to pick up mascara. Inspired by the carefree, yet glamorous, lifestyle of Brigitte Bardot the fragrance combines notes of ginger, papaya, iris, white musk and Moroccan rose for a mix that comes off powerful yet sweet.
Initially the scent is warm and somewhat sugary, which is probably the result of a secret note of the Italian pastry ‘Pannetone.’ After some wear, the fragrance fades into a floral with hints of sandalwood and saffron that creates a complex and balanced composition eventually ending in a final crisp, clean note. This scent is perfect for the office or a date night because it is sophisticated and strong, but not too overpowering.
Brigitte is a part of a collection of fine fragrances by Tocca inspired by women throughout history, including Cleopatra and Grace Kelly, and can be purchased at Sephora or local favorite Bellacara. -Angela Bobo

Many designers took the phrase “put it in writing” literally this season, as statement necklaces acquired new meaning by displaying actual vocabulary. Fashion lovers clamored to get their hands on Lanvin’s giant script necklaces that boasted words such as “cool” and “beyond.”
But, we have found the perfect piece right in our very own backyard at Old Town’s one-of-a-kind jewelry shop She’s Unique [703-836-8863]. Owned by the super stylish Katya Ananieva (of SpicyCandyDC) and her mother Sabila, the boutique has a diverse mix of classic and modern pieces that can suit women of all ages and styles.
With a price point of $49.95, the sterling silver script necklace with gold plating featured is both affordable and on-trend.
Book it to King Street today to grab this, and other amazing pieces from luxe designers like Jennifer Zeuner, and prove that making a statement can be oh-so-glam.

This past October, Tysons Galleria celebrated ‘25 Years of Luxury‘ with a variety of incredible events and special appearances from the Washington Ballet, Fox Five Morning News Anchor Allison Seymour, PR powerhouse Aliza Licht and superblogger Bryanboy.
We had the chance to briefly chat with the latter, who was featured in Vogue’s ‘Power’ issue and has collaborated on collections with the top luxury brands, about his favorite trends to try in the New Year and the future of blogs.
Q: What is the one standout fashion trend in the New Year that you are most looking forward to wearing?
A: Flashback to the 90s! Spring 2014 is all about an homage to the 90s—clean, minimal looks, preferably in pastels.
Q: What changes would you like to see on fashion blogs
to offer a fresher perspective for 2014?
A: It’s not so much about a fresher perspective, but consistency. What I always look for at blogs is the ability of a blogger to transport a reader like myself to a different place. I love blogs that make me dream.
