It still may be summer, but with air conditioners cranked up to colder temperatures in restaurants, shops and offices alike, you may be tempted to bring out your fall jackets a little early. Save your jackets for September and opt for silk scarves to add a punch of color to your ensemble while keeping you warm in those cold spaces. A hand-dyed scarf has a watercolor appearance that has summer written all over it

Pull off a look of summer breeze when you pair this scarf with a white sundress.

Dog Kids Backpack, $40 (Photo courtesy of Dabbawalla Bags)

As awful as it sounds, many families are already back-to-school shopping, and for those eager children getting ready for their first FIRST day of school, you want to find the perfect backpack to ease those nerves. With a unique Dabbawalla Bag, your child will be wanting to sprint out of the door.

Inspired by an Indian tradition where dabbawallas delivered cooked lunches to office workers, Dabbawalla Bags now have become a special way for children to carry their personal belongings wherever they go.

Originally founded by sisters Susan Givens and Carol Macks, each bag is individually sewn and is the complete opposite of the oversized lunch boxes and backpacks found in the back-to-school shopping sections. Aside from its light weight and size, Dabbawalla Bags also are washable, insulated and 100 percent toxic free. Even the designs are simple and charming compared to the crazy patterns and animations seen on children’s bags nowadays.

These simple and fun bags are perfect for children of all ages, one that will keep your child’s most precious memories tucked away all year round.

Coif Crushes: The Center Part

Posted by Carten Cordell / Tuesday, July 30th, 2013

I used to be the person who treated their hair as if it were permanent–something that could never be changed. But as I became more interested in fashion and beauty, I quickly found myself looking at new styles–colors, lengths and parts. Before doing anything drastic–like dying my “virgin” hair from blonde to red (which I actually ended up doing–and loving!), I decided to play around with my part.

Style Report: The Grown-Up Version of Pinafores

Posted by Carten Cordell / Monday, July 29th, 2013

The slow comeback of overalls makes me remember the ‘90s during which I rocked my favorite pair of pink overalls. It was such an easy ensemble for third grade: put on a white shirt, put on the pink overalls, buckle the right, buckle the left, and buckle my shoes.

The girlish cousin of the schoolgirl staple, pinafore dresses, are also making a resurgence this season. Fashion icons Alexa Chung and Kate Bosworth have donned the look with a girl meets boy vibe. You too may no longer be in elementary school, but can update the iconic dresses with the right accessories for an easy, chic look that won’t be too reminiscent of sitting in rows learning multiplication tables.

Toughen up on accessories to pair with a pinafore dress for a grown-up take on the schoolgirl style.

British Girl Next Door: Alexa Chung

Posted by Carten Cordell / Friday, July 26th, 2013

Since her first appearance on Channel 4′s “Popworld” in 2006 after first being scouted for modeling a few years earlier, Alexa Chung has become one Great Britain’s most famous fashion icons. So much, in fact, that in 2010, Mulberry named a bag in her honor called the ‘Alexa’. With several designer collaborations as well as multiple British Style Awards under her belt, Chung has certainly launched a British invasion in the fashion world.

From red carpet appearances to casual looks on the go, Chung has certainly proven that one doesn’t need to follow trends to have style. While wearing some of the classic designers such as Chanel, Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton, Chung also loves channeling the sixties and her inner tomboy chic. With trademark pieces such as androgynous flats and mixes of quirky prints, this British mogul certainly has proven that creating trend’s through a personal sense of style indeed a fashion-forward philosophy.
