Jodi Picoult’s one of the biggest names around in the world of fiction these days, and the author is gracing us with her presence on Monday! Picoult will be signing copies of her newest effort, “Handle with Care,” another one of her books that revolves around love and family. (Comic book fans will also remember her notable run on “Wonder Woman” a couple years back, and how she wove comics into her best-seller, “The Tenth Circle.”) Stop by and check her out at 7:30 p.m. at the Borders in Baileys Crossroads. The store will also host Frank Delaney at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, as he’s in town to chat about his historical fiction set in the Irish Civil War, “Shannon.” It is Women’s History Month in March, and Politics & Prose has a few special presentations to go along with that theme. Tanya Lee Ston will discuss her new book “Almost Astronauts,” a history of the Mercury 13 women, at 10:30 a.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday. And on 7 p.m. Friday, Elaine Showalter has a signing for “A Jury of Her Peers,” the author’s look at American women writers from 1650 to 2000.
Could a woman be the next Batman? Anything will be possible at the end of “Battle for the Cowl,” which debuts this week. Gotham City is missing its major domo, so everybody wants to get into the fray to determine who the city’s main protector will be. Could it be Batwoman, Batgirl, Huntress or Catwoman? Or might it be one of the former Robins, Jason Todd or Nightwing? Heck, Two-Face even wants a shot. For your non-superhero choices, there’s “Resident Evil,” a prequel to the upcoming “Resident Evil 5″ video game, and a reprinting of the first volume of the very cool Warren Ellis gonzo-journalist-in-the-23rd-century book “Transmetropolitan.” And for the Stephen King fans out there, Marvel’s second “The Stand” miniseries, “American Nightmares,” premieres the same week as the collection of the first, “Captain Trips.”
Who’s your favorite classic author and why? Let me know in the comments section.
