Tone Loc out, Rob Base in at Celebrate Fairfax!

main19There’s been a big change at this weekend’s Celebrate Fairfax! festival down at the Fairfax County Government Center. Tone Loc (you know, the purveyor of “Funky Cold Medina” and “Wild Thing” back in the day) was scheduled to be a part of the Old Skool All-Stars performing on Saturday night at the event. Unfortunately, Tone had to cancel his appearance on the triple bill with Naughty by Nature and the Sugar Hill Gang — possibly a result of his collapsing during a concert last week in Florida — but never fear, NoVa hip-hop lovers. Another R&B icon, Rob Base, has stepped in and will be performing as part of the 7:30 p.m. Saturday concert. Base had hits with “Joy and Pain” and “It Takes Two” so you won’t be missing any hits with his presence. Tickets for the festival are $12 for adults, 5 bucks for kids, and hours are 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those looking for more music during the annual celebration have a lot to choose from, including The Fixx (3 p.m. Saturday), country superstar Phil Vassar (3:30 p.m. Sunday), The Lloyd Dobler Effect (2 p.m. Saturday) and Luke Brindley (5 p.m. Sunday).
