Proposal of the Month: November

Brooke Parker and Eric King

The Couple: Brooke Parker and Eric King

Engagement Date: February, 14, 2009

Wedding Date: November 7, 2009

The Proposal (according to Brooke): Eric really surprised me with this one. For weeks I had been asking him if some of his friends were going to get engaged on Valentine’s Day, and he kept reinforcing how cheesy it was. While we were hanging out with Chris (brother) and Jen (brother’s girlfriend) the weekend before, Eric casually suggested we all go to a vineyard before our “dinner reservations” on Valentine’s Day, and they agreed that would be fun!

Valentine’s Day comes along and we are all headed to Potomac Point Winery in Chris’s car telling jokes and carrying on as we usually do. Once we arrive, Eric speaks with the lady at the front desk (who was in on this the WHOLE time), and she acts as if she doesn’t know who he is, says she is leaving soon but can maybe squeeze in a quick tour.

We all get a glass of wine and are given a tour of the winery! We then get to a spiral staircase that goes up to a tower that overlooks the entire vineyard. Eric and I go up the stairs. It’s sunset on the most romantic day of the year, candles are lit on the window sills (which I thought was for the people coming in for the dinner reservation, the reason why we were told that we only had a few minutes up there) and Eric proposed. I screamed/screeched/said “YES!”

And it’s not over yet …

We are so excited, so we walk outside in the vineyard and begin calling our families who, of course, “had no idea” and were so surprised and so happy for us. Then Eric calls Aunt Patty to see if we can stop by because we had a surprise for her. We always stop by aunt Patty’s so this wasn’t weird at all.

We arrive at Patty’s house—grandparents’ car was the only car out front, which also wasn’t weird because they are always over there! Eric opens the door for me, and I walk in to both of our entire immediate families screaming “Surprise!” It was AWESOME, everyone was in on it, and everyone was there to celebrate with us, which was amazing because our families are so important to both of us! It was a great night for both of us and our families, and the best proposal I could have imagined.
