You can go to Stomping Ground for the excellent biscuits (made by a Southerner) or the coffee (sourced from nearby roaster M.E. Swing), but you’ll have to remember to come back at night to get to know this true gem of an addition to Del Ray. With booths, intimate two-tops and a huge wooden communal table, the space easily transitions from day to night. Though the menu only lists about 20 items, dishes span the globe from Mexico to South America and back down South. Slices of chimichurri-topped steak fan out over a butternut squash mole; heaping chunks of pork are embedded within house-fried tortilla chips; and Brussels sprouts top a savory grits bowl crowned with a poached egg. If you’re in a rush, grab a mini jar of the housemade hazelnut spread, a thicker, richer version of the commercialized Nutella.
