If you don’t know what the white triangular emoji* is between the cheeseburger and a loaf of bread, you can find it at Tachibana. It’s onigiri, a rice ball wrapped in seaweed with salmon tucked inside. It’s salty, soft and warm. In Japan you can buy it packaged at convenience stores, a snack superior to most. And in America, you can type it on your keyboard or eat it in McLean.
Tachibana, of course, also serves excellent sushi and funky items like yamakake, which is diced tuna with grated Japanese yams that give the dish an overall slimy stickiness that is foreign here. No emoji yet. *An iOS update changed the onigiri’s location
