As you hunker down to fill out your taxes midmonth, some of you will be elated to find that Uncle Sam owes you money; others of us will be writing another check. In 2015, United States residents will pay $3 trillion in federal taxes and $1.5 trillion in state taxes. That is more money spent on taxes than on food, clothing and housing combined, according to the Tax Foundation. Here’s a breakdown of where our money, and time, goes to pay the man.
