Jacob Shepard is an 11-year-old living in the City of Manassas that participates in the City of Manassas Fire and Rescue Department‘s one-year old “Adopt a Fire Hydrant” program. Shepard is responsible for making sure the hydrant is accessible at all times. The department says more volunteers are needed to cover the city’s 1,300+ hydrants.

Tiny House Building Company in Spotsylvania will be prominently featured in the premiere of HGTV’s Tiny House Hunters‘ fifth season on Thursday, Jan. 24. They will follow the owners of the Wine Reserve at Waterford in Loudoun County as they look for a tiny house to have on the winery’s property.

More Virginians are using Amtrak and a new intercity bus service according to the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation. Overall, Amtrak ridership increased five percent year-over-year.
