Two types of summer camps are offered through the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia: Camp Achva, the general camp, and Camp Kadima, a social skills camp. At Camp Achva, campers get the offerings of a typical summer camp with in-house activities and field trips, with children placed in coed groups based on age where they work on arts and crafts, play sports (archery, taekwondo, swimming), work on STEM programs and have cooking lessons. Camp Kadima is a summer camp for children with high-functioning autism, ADD/ADHD and related disorders with a focus on teaching campers self-esteem, self-awareness, social competence and independent skills and how to foster positive relationships. They also get the benefit of the activities from the general camp, ensuring they have a great summer.
