Coconut-taro milk tea
Teas’n You
This new addition to Tysons Corner offers green, black and fruit teas (hot and cold) with custom mix-ins including fresh fruit, chia seeds and housemade boba. Brewed with a black tea base, the warm drink is blended with coconut milk and real taro until it reaches peak purple. Unlike other shops, where bubble tea’s sweetness can crack your teeth, the sugar level can be controlled at Teas’n You. But if you’re not afraid of sugar, try macarons or chef Lysa Thuy Pham’s doughnut-croissant mashup, a puffy doughssant filled with pastry cream. // 8032 Leesburg Pike, Vienna
Church Bourbon
Falls Church Distillers
In July, Michael Paluzzi opened Falls Church Distillers (the first distillery to open in Fairfax since A. Smith Bowman started there in 1935) alongside his oldest son, Lorenzo, a chemist who is dabbling in custom yeast strains for the family business. The initial spirits run includes Church Bourbon, a sweet, wheated bourbon aged three years and sourced from a craft distillery in southwest Virginia. The elder Paluzzi finishes the base spirit in small batches in his custom copper-top pot still. The on-site restaurant has an Italian theme, serving wines by the glass, beer on tap, small plates and sandwiches and is decorated with art from the Front Royal artist collective Let Art Live On. // 442 S. Hatch
Wild Hare Hard Cider
The two-year-old cidery in Bluemont celebrated several medals at the coveted Great Lakes International Cider and Perry Competition, including silver for its Hatch bottling, made from Stayman apples grown in the Shenandoah Valley. The lightly carbonated dry cider has a touch of tannin and acidity to cut through richer fall dishes like roasts and risottos. // 33735 Snickersville Turnpike, Suite 104, Bluemont
Tri-Corner Pumpkin + Pumpkin Thayer Porter
Old Trade Brewery
This family-friendly brewery (there’s a playground and family bathroom) opened outside of Culpeper this summer. Two ultralocal pumpkin beers—a lighter, pecan-tinged ale and a coffee-heavy porter—will be ready by Oktoberfest, made with pumpkin grown on the farm by brewer-owner Garrett Thayer. // 13270 Alanthus Road, Brandy Station
