In a wonderful coincidence, Cinco de Mayo falls on Taco Tuesday this year.
But unlike years past, we can’t spend our time in a dining room or on a sunny patio, enjoy our favorite dishes and cocktails. So this year, Northern Virginia restaurants are doing everything they can to let you celebrate Cinco de Mayo at home.
Below, find 10 local restaurants and delivery services that are offering to-go tacos and margarita mixes for your social-distancing celebration. Plus, if you want to reach your friends, but can’t share a meal with them, send a local margarita-gram. You can add chips and guacamole to make it extra special for your friends and family.
Coyote Grill
Coyote Grill wants to help make your Cinco de Mayo a party, even if you can’t celebrate at one of its dining room tables. This year, order a Cinco de Mayo party kit filled with tacos, guacamole, queso blanco, margaritas and more. All of the kits are heat-and-eat to make sure they’re extra hot when you’re ready to eat them, and that you can grab them when pickup fits your schedule. Choose your tacos: al pastor (marinated pulled pork, grilled pineapple, cilantro and spicy green sauce), el toro kit (marinated flank steak, chipotle bourbon sauce, pickled onions, cilantro, jalapeños and crema), pollo loco (pulled chalupa chicken, Southwest slaw, pico de gallo and cilantro) or camaròn kit (blackened shrimp, broccoli slaw, mango salsa and sriracha crema), and pair them with your choice of two margarita pouches. It’ll be a family fiesta, even at home. // Coyote Grill: 10266 Main St., Fairfax
Elizabeth’s Counter
We’ve seen and heard that many of you have been baking during your time spent at home. But as much as you might enjoy another slice of sourdough with a glass of wine, it’s time to indulge on Cinco de Mayo with more than just tacos and margaritas. Grab a Boozed-Up Margarita glazed doughnut from Elizabeth’s Counter, topped with lime sea salt and a candied lime wheel. Sorry kids, this doughnut is only for adults 21 and up, and must be pre-ordered beforehand. Need dinner too? Grab one of the restaurant’s plant-based meals, from burgers to Brussels sprouts, or just an additional snack for later. // Elizabeth’s Counter: 804 N. Henry St., Alexandria
Hummingbird Bar & Kitchen
Comfort-food meal kits are just what Hummingbird Bar & Kitchen can deliver during a global pandemic, but it can also be perfect for celebrating the holiday too. Order the Cinco de Mayo Carnitas for a full dinner for four, including chicken and pork carnitas, fresh pineapple salsa and chipotle sour cream crema, corn and flour tortillas, limes and cheese for added flavor, brownies (for the kids) and the “Hot Lips” margarita kit (for the adults). The margarita mix is a blend of pineapple, fresh lime juice, blue agave nectar and silver tequila, but if a lemon-inspired cocktail is more your thing, opt for the Mezcal mint lemonade, made with mint from Hummingbird Garden, fresh-squeezed lemon juice and Maximo 100 Mezcal. // Hummingbird Bar & Kitchen: 220 S. Union St., Alexandria
Mason Social
Taco Tuesday has become a highlight of the week for Mason Social, which has been whipping out its favorite flavor combinations for to-go meals throughout the pandemic. Cinco de Mayo will be no different, where local residents can order a taco kit for two, including six tacos (with two preferred meats, including carnitas, fried chicken, shrimp or mushroom), served with creamy rice, chips and salsa, and a 64-ounce pitcher of margaritas. For bigger families, order for four, and feel free to skip the margaritas if you’ve already prepared them yourself. // Mason Social: 728 N. Henry St., Alexandria
Port City Brewing Company
What’s easier than waiting in line at the grocery store (with a face mask, of course) to get your favorite beer? Picking it up curbside or having it delivered from Port City Brewing Company. The Alexandria brewery is celebrating Cinco de Mayo this year with the release of the Mexican Dark Lager, now available in four-pack cans. According to the website, the beer draws inspiration from the brown and amber oscura (meaning dark) lagers of Mexico and is a brilliant tawny chestnut with nutty, toasted malt flavors. But it doesn’t end there! Order the Cinco de Mayo package, built in partnership with Daddy G’s Craft Salsas, to get a four-pack of the Mexican lager, a six-pack of Optimal Wit, and an 8-ounce Rockin’ Salsa, a 16-ounce jar of Chillin’ Craft Queso (made with Optimal Wit) and chips for $45. // Port City Brewing Company: 3950 Wheeler Ave., Alexandria
Riverside Taco Company
Best known as the seasonal, shining silver Airstream that serves up tacos all summer long, Riverside Taco Company is reopening on Cinco de Mayo despite the pandemic to deliver the community the tacos it’s craving. The menu (available for delivery or takeout) features fresh guacamole, salsa de chile pasilla, street corn, rice bowls and a wide variety of house tacos, including chorizo, carnitas pork belly al pastor and more. Plus, don’t forget to order a frozen strawberry, mango or passion fruit suaza margarita to take your at-home celebration over the top. // Riverside Taco Company: 105 Union St., Alexandria (Alexandria waterfront)
TTT Mexican Diner
If there’s ever been a takeout menu designed for a Cinco de Mayo meal, it’s TTT Diner’s. It’s time to build your at-home tacos, quesadillas, arabe tacos, burritos or burrito bowls, and make the most of the holiday by grabbing some tortas, rice and beans, plantains and chips and salsa. Order a la carte, or get the fiesta for two, including one protein (pork carnitas, chicken fajitas, smoked brisket, shrimp or fajita mushroom), three sides and one dessert to share: an order of churros or a slice of tres leches cake. Top off your order with house-made margaritas or sangria, and you’ll be toasting to the best meal of the week. /// TTT Mexican Diner: 2900 Wilson Blvd., Suite 103, Arlington
Taco Bamba
It’s hard to consider not celebrating Cinco de Mayo, but especially without the creative dishes by Victor Albisu. All of the Virginia locations of the chef’s taco-inspired restaurant have reopened amidst the pandemic for takeout, and now you can get your hands on everything from grapefruit-vanilla margarita mix to not-your-average tacos. Since it’s a holiday, order up your favorites, from the breakfast tacos to the vegan tacos, to the “nobody bothers me” taco (fitting for social distancing, say?) with bulgogi beef, chili de arbol kimchi and gochujang crema. From Falls Church and Fairfax to Vienna and Springfield, be sure to order ahead and make sure your go-to dishes are available for your at-home celebration. // Multiple locations
Taco Rock
You might be thinking, “Great, I’m spending Cinco de Mayo at home, by myself.” But there’s a great way to celebrate, even as a party for one: Taco Rock’s Cinco de Mayo (and Taco Tuesday) special. Get an order of three classic tacos with a margarita pouch for just $14. You choose your protein and topping flavor combinations, then be sure to pick your favorite cocktail flavor, from classic and cucumber, to passion fruit and blueberry. Plus, there’s no one to stop you from adding on a few extra specialty or veggie tacos, puffy blue chips, chicken flautas or Mexican nachos. Now it’s really time to dine. // Taco Rock: 1501 Wilson Blvd., Arlington
Tequila & Taco
What you’re looking for on Cinco de Mayo? It’s all in the name: Tequila & Taco. But what about another favorite? The Alexandria-based restaurant is offering take-and-bake enchiladas for the ultimate comfort-food feast on Cinco de Mayo. And no, no one will judge you for eating them on your couch and in your pajamas. Order up with a side of house-made margaritas (offered in singles or pitchers), as well as a lengthy list of flavor-filled tacos, fajitas, quesadillas and more. // Tequila + Taco: 540 John Carlyle St., Alexandria
